For the past 3 or 4 days Tom has been confused like crazy. Making no sense with his sentences or words, can't remember 5 minutes ago, just a MESS. Last night he coughed till he finally got up and slept in the recliner so he wouldn't choke. I have to ask him questions or explain something in one or two word sentences for him to understand what I am saying. He has been confused and forgetful but this is the worst ever and it seemed to come on quickly. He is home and able for the most part to function on his own. Not like he is in stage 6 or anything. The other night while we were camping he wet himself...said the faucet started and just wouldn't stop. The doctor just put him on Flomax a couple of weeks ago. This is the first time he didn't make it to the bathroom in time. He is on AZ meds. Don't know whether to let the doctor know about this or just chock it up to steps backward. I feel like I am married to a 3 year old most of the time.

    Sheila,

I would definitely take him to the doctor to be checked out. Illness exacerbates confusion, and with the coughing you mentioned, he could have some kind of respiratory infection. He should also be checked for a Urinary Tract Infection, which causes all kinds of phyiscal and cognitive problems. Any sudden change in symptoms should be checked out.

Sheila, I agree with joang. Get him to his doctor ASAP.

Sheila, I also agree with Joan and Marsh because what happens to him physically can also make everything else amplified. By the way, I am living with a 2 year old most of the time so I know exactly what you mean.

increased coughing is listed as a side effect of flomax so that could be the reason for that. I was reading problems people have on it and although confusion is not one specifically listed, it would not surprise me. Add to the AD problem and it could very well happen. Definitely contact the doctor and be persistant. Do not let them shrug it off or make light of it. Any little amount of ground our spouse looses is major for them.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Doc is gone till Monday so unless we have to go the ER over the weekend, hope things go well. DH seems to be fine today and last night. No coughing, peeing or feeling anything other than the norm (what the heck is NORM anyhow?).

We are camping this weekend (only 7 miles from home) so hope all goes well.

Thanks again and have a GREAT weekend.

My 22 year old grandson was killed in a car wreck a year ago and the last words to his best buddy were "Keep smiling dude, cause I am".

I did not get any sleep last night. I hear everyone talk about that they can not find the bathroom at one stage. DW can find the bath room at night. She then can not find the bed. She went to the bath room 4 times last night and then I have to help her back into bed.
