This morning I did two loads of laundry (washed and dried) then I went to the store. All was well until I got home. My stomach started to hurt and while I was in the kitchen I got light headed and started to sweat. I was hanging on to the sink because I knew if I let go I would fall. Finally made my way to a dining room chair which was closer than my recliner, sat there who knows how long, until I could make it to my recliner. After a while it started to pass SLOWLY. Even my hands were sweating while it was going on and apparently it "scared the hell" out of DH. Monday I am calling a company called Caregivers of SC and find out what they can do for us and how much it will cost. I have checked their web site and it seems like a good place but I need to talk to a person. I tried to Google it to see if I could get pros and cons but didn't find anything. I HOPE and pray I don't have it again whatever it was. It "scared the hell" out of me too!
Jean21, almost same thing happened to me several weeks ago. I knew I was coming down with some sort of terrible "bug" that was going around. Went downstairs to get coffee in the morning, made it down the stairs okay, next thing I know I'm sitting on the floor by the dishwasher, seeing stars and sick to my stomach. Crawled to the bathroom - never did throw up. Slowly got up and sat in a chair for a few minutes - then I was fine! It certainly is scary as Hell! DH never knew anything about it - and I did have my cellphone in my pj pocket!
Jean21, this can be a symptom or warning sign of a early Heart Attack for women. It could be something else but be alert for this possibility. I had similar episodes before a minor heart attack. I also had the symptom of "impending doom". Women symptoms are different than men's. Might be worthwhile to go to the ER for a EKG.
The same thing happened to me and I was in a bathroom at a restaurant. I wonder if it is the stress that we are under. Mine passed in just a few minutes (maybe 10 to 15) and haven't had it since.
there are several possibilities that could be to blame. like others say it could be a precursor to cardiac and you may feel better if you let your dr know and see if any tests need to be done to put you at ease. there are alot of spring bugs going around and possiblity this as well. on another note dont be surprised if you hear the words stress/panic attack etc too. they can make you physically ill just like mimicking some other issue. i had one a few yrs ago and thought it was cardiac, drove myself to ER with DH in tow, spent the night with several thousand in tests, and was told it was upper gastro distress caused by over nerves/ stress- it can come out of nowhere.
I was with my friend today who told me about someone she knows who got this funny "flu" like thing, took a couple of weeks to feel better but she has ended up with congestive heart failure...no heart history before..picture of health..don't know what this is but she had the flu shot so ????
Mimi, I think that it takes a while for congestive heart failure to develop so I don't think your friend's acqaintance basic problem was the 'flu or 'flu shot, although they may have added to her misery. Now I have a question: on my recent visit to family doctor, he said, "Have you noticed that your legs have swollen?" I hadn't, but of course the very next day I noticed that my legs felt very tired. Anyone had this and found that support hose helped? Or what else? I already keep my salt intake low. Thanks. (Too bad he hadn't followed his observation with, "So you might find that so-and-son helps." But he's such a good doctor that I think he probably didn't think it was that bad.)
I've been having "palpitations," mostly in the morning just before I wake up. I was so concerned about them that before I had surgery a couple of months ago I wanted to make sure nothing was wrong with my heart. I've had these before and have had a stress test and echocardiograms. Everything was fine. My doctor said she thought they were due to stress. But, as I said above, I was concerned because they were especially bad hefore the surgery. Wore a monitor for 3 days and everytime I felt the palpitations I wrote down what time they occurred. Nothing showed up on the monitor! I was shocked. After all, I felt them! After the surgery, while in the hospital and while recuperating, with my daughters' help, I didn't have them for about a month. Now, I'm getting them again. Guess I can chalk it up to stress....
I am fine today! I don't know what it was but I wasn't feeling stressed at least I didn't feel stressed. If it happens again I will call 911 and a friend to take DH home from the ER.
Mary75, about a year ago my feet kept swelling, the doctor gave me "water" pills which took care of the problem.
Jean....please if you have not talked to your doctor, do so! Your symptoms are concerning to this old cardiac nurse. Women's symptoms are very different from men's as lmohr pointed out. The light headedness and profuse sweating needs to be discussed with MD. Happily it is probably a warning but needs to be addressed. If it is "ONLY" stress then that should be dealt with as well....but let an MD make that diagnosis.
scs, Actually I have been thinking about and I think I will call and get an appointment with out family doctor. Heart problems run in my family so I should have more sense or at least act like I do.lol. Thanks for your concern.
I have an appointment with my doctor for 9.00am Wednesday morning. I'm thinking it won't be anything serious but who knows for sure. If it is serious I will probably have a hissy fit!
So proud of you! You must take care of your self...as the old saying goes...if you don't who will? If it is heart related you now can do all the things you need to do to prevent a heart attack. Given that your family has a genetic disposition to cardiac problems do not minimize your symptoms to your doctor. Some doctors tend to fluff off women with heart problems especially with your AD issues as stress. If this happens, tell him/her that a pushy nurse wants you to see a cardiologist. hugs
Thanks scs and bludaze. I really like my doctor, he LISTENS and gives good advice. I saw him last week for the results of my bloodwork and everything was normal. He was concerned about me because of DH and telling me I need to get out for a few hours 3 days a week and if there is anything he can do to help to let him know. I wonder if he does windows. lol.
Lol...windows are supposed to get dirty as that helps keep house cooler in summertime....at least that is my excuse and I am sticking to it! Glad to hear that he listens. Yes you need to get out and yes now 2 pushy RN's are going to haunt you until we hear that you have been properly examined.
windows are supposed to get dirty as that helps keep house cooler in summertime
scs, that's almost as good as dust bunnies protecting the house!!!!! I will check in on Wednesday and let you know what happened. Are you sure you are not my Mom reincarnated?
Wow never knew that about dust bunnies. I always wondered why they were so strategically placed. Never touch one of those guys ever again. Maybe your Mom is channeling through me to make sure you take care of yourself. Never know.....my email is sstamoulis@cox.net let me know. hugs
Jean, The very same thing happened to me about two years ago before my husband died. I was in a huge rush (as usual) in a grocery store. I reached for an item on a shelf slightly lower than my reach and as I bent down, I had all of your symptoms. I had a numb tingling feeling from my 'reaching hand up my arm and up the side of my neck. I saw stars... and sweat just poured from my body. I leaned forward over the hand rail on my shopping card and walked a few steps to get out of the aisle into the open. About that time, a female store manager approached me and asked, "Are you Okay???" I replied, "Yes, I'm fine". Whaaat? Why do we say things like that?????? It's embarrassing to admit you' may be having a heart attack or stroke??????? I was embarrassed.
She went to a cooler and brought me a glass of water and asked if I was there with anyone. I told her no, (and filled her in on my home situation and that I needed to get home!) She made me sit on a stack of boxes for about ten minutes, then she checked out my food items for me, ran my credit card for me and two people took my groceries (and me) to the car. I was feeling better..It had passed, but soooooooooo strange. I saw my doctor a few days later and he said he couldn't begin to diagnose it then, but he would suspect either a brief panic attack or a TIA. I've since had another episode that was diagnosed as a TIA that resulted in a closed eyelid for about a month. The oddest feeling... and absolutely terrifying at the moment it happens.
Elaine...glad you are on board as I know of all of us you will probably help to get "at the root" of the problem...sorry folks the devil made me do it! lol See how concerned we are Jean XO
The above is my guess.......No MD's in the family, just PhD's and DVM's........
I have had 4 of the above experiences and they gave everyone a scare! The last one was when I was holding my husband's hands while he was having a spinal tap. It came on so suddenly........but when they took me out of the very hot room and into a cooler one, I was fine! Go figure.
I am glad you are going to see your doctor. Please don't ignore what happened and don't let the doctor say it is stress............even if it is!
I checked the mayo site and it seems to put fainting as one of the prominent symptoms. I didn't faint and didn't have a couple of the other symptoms but I will let my doctor figure it out. I was talking to my pastor yesterday and he thought it might be too much BP meds. (580mg a day). I will ask my doctor about that tomorrow.
I can't believe I have generated all these responses. Usually when I post to a thread that ends it! I thank each of you for your concern and now you can all be concerned for yourselves. VBG.
Saw my doctor this morning. He thinks it could have been low blood sugar because I don't eat a lot or wait too long to eat. I did have an EKG and there was a spike on there that he thought was a bit high. He had his nurse get an appointment for for Monday for a stress test, so we'll see how that goes. I am inclined to agree with my doctor because sometimes I don't eat much at dinner and don't eat anything until sometime the next morning. Like I told him I will never be mistaken for a foodie!
I'm not a doctor, nurse or doctor's daughter so I couldn't give any advice but I've been checking in every day to see how you are, Jean. Yes, we do all care!
