When the Hospice nurse came the other day, she thought my husband might have a fever, and wanted to take his temperature. I got our digital thermometer for her and she put it under his tongue while she was taking his vital signs. Well, low and behold, when she took it out of his mouth, he had chewed the rubber down to the core! We had to throw it away!

I went to the drug store and the pharmacist happened to be on that aisle of the store, and I told him what I was looking for and why, and I wondered about the ear one that you use on kids, and spotted one that reads with no contact! You can even take their temperature while they sleep! Just scan their foreheads. It is great for children, and now for AD patients!!!

It cost $35, and worth every penny! I love it!!! It works really fast, and I can take his temperature without having to wake him. For those of you who haven't had this problem as yet, I thought I would share my new-found knowledge! Others might have known about this marvel for years, but it is new to me!!!

My DH hates to put "that thing" in his mouth and I would love to get something like that!!! Did you get it at Walgreens or a different drugstore? What did the nurse say about his chewing the rubber off?

Doesn't the body temperature drop when you are asleep? I am wondering if that will affect the temperature reading with the scanner type. I would hope it didn't affect it too much!

I bought mine at Sam's Club and paid $15. Temp is usually a little lower when sleeping so if it is elevated at that time, you know there could be a problem.

deb, you just answered one of my questions. I can get one at walmart and it is called a temporal scanner. Thank you, I also think that taking the temp. while they are asleep would be good because I don't know about anyone else but my temp. normally is low and it would be a good idea to find out how low their temp. is first before finding out what is normal for them and not normal for them.

The nurse is the one who noticed he had bitten into the rubber. We threw it away. He had not bitten through the wiring.

I got mine at USA Drugs, but I'm sure that all places with pharmacies would have them.

And you can scan them both awake and asleep so you can see the difference in their individual temperatures too...
