    Does a EEG help with dx of AD? I'm wondering because the dr. ordered one for my DH but said it was normal.Even so he put him on aricept.I guess I'm just confused.

    It's one of the tests they run to rule out what may be causing the memory loss/confusion. For example, heart problems could be limiting the amount of blood/oxygen to the brain which could affect memory.

    Most of the tests they order when trying to make a diagnosis are to rule out other things, not to diagnosis AD.

    Agree with everything said above. My husband was given two EEGs to rule out seizures. He was eventually diagnosed with FTD.

    His dr. might have been suspecting AD but ordered the test to rule out anything else that it could be first.
