My DH loves to go to the doctors. He always dreams up a reason to go but won't take any new meds or do anything the doctor says.I'm thinking he just likes the attention.Any comments?

This is one I haven't heard before, but I'll bet you are right about him looking for attention.

My hb always did love going to the doctor and started going when their was nothing wrong ( Doctor stated in medical records, "He is here today with nothing wrong".) I'm not sure if it's wanting attention in hb's case, I just always thought hb was a hypochondriac.

My grandmother loves to go to the doctor. She is, at 97, his oldest patient. They fawn all over her at the office. She loves it. Although, she doesn't take her meds like she should or do what she is told. She usually argues with the doctor about everything. Any other doctor would have asked her to leave his practice by now.

My Daddy use to fake heart attacks when he was bored. He was living with my sister at the time and she would call 911 and they would take him to the hospital. She said when they would finally let them see him, he would be sitting up joking with ER personel. He did not have dementia but parkinsons. He never tried that when he was at my house and I think it was because he thought he couldn't fool me. I surely miss him.

That is interesting! I haven't heard of this either but I wonder if they just like getting out of the house. For some older people the dr. visit is the only thing they have to look forward to. They do get a lot of attention for a short period of time.

Bama, My Dad did the same thing. He had a Lifeline and when he was bored, or mad at us, he would press the button and say he was having chest pain. He knew the hospital policy was to keep them 3 days if they had chest pain! We finally had to put him in a Retirement Home because the hospital complained and the day we went to move him he wasn't in his apartment. My aunt who lived int he same building said she saw him leaving in the ambulance and lo and behold we found him in the ER. He felt that as long as he paid the bill he had a right to go to the hospital whenever he wanted.

phil4, it makes me smile when I think about this. He has been gone for 12 years now. I was in the hospital room when he died. I heard this small voice singing "I Come to the Garden Alone" as stopped breathing. It was a calm, peaceful feeling in that room that day. I count it as one of my favorite memories.

We have been married 32 years this year and up until last year I could count on one hand the number of times DH had been to the doctors. After last Feb, I can't keep him out of the doctors office. When watching tv he will see something and ask if I need to take him in to be checked for said problem. At first I jumped at every little thing, now I watch him to see if there is a real problem. I find it kind of funny, after all these years I can't keep him out of the doctors office.

By the way, it was his work that got him the first doctor's visit to see what was going on with him last Feb. After I had spent 5 months begging him to get looked at.

I do think he likes all the attention, even the dentist. We have been 5 times in the last 2 months. Another one I have been trying to get him to see...........
