Is anyone familar with these cognative scores? My dh is in a nursing home temporarily while he gets rehab on his back. They said he scored a 4.2 on the ACL test. The coversation is about whether he can be left alone at home with this type of score. ACL is Allen Cognative level I think. Thanks for your help! Sherizeee
I looked this up for you. The ACL tests all types of functioning. It looks like a 4.2 means he is not nursing home material, but will need some supervision at home. This is the link: http://www.allen-cognitive-levels.com/levels.htm
Thanks this is very confusing, they did a slum test too, that was 17 out of 30, and his neuro said he was in moderate severe level and his judgment is way out of wack, and loses new information in 30 seconds. I dont think he should be left alone.
Tests don't tell the whole story. I am a firm believer in using your own judgement. If you don't think he should be left alone, he shouldn't be left alone. My husband scores high on the mini mental and can fool anyone into thinking there is nothing wrong with him, but I wouldn't leave him alone overnight. I leave him for a few hours in the afternoon, but that's all. He can't remember to check his glucose levels; he can't remember to take his pills; if he naps, when he wakes up, he can't remember where I am. Even if he's awake, he often doesn't remember where I went. When he gets confused, he gets angry and panics. The test doesn't show that.
The last time I left him alone he took apart electrical outlets and could not put them back together, I have come home to no phone service (he disconnected), and refridgerator unplugged. He still thinks he fix things the way he used to , thanks for the support of going by MY judgment. Thanks for this outlet.
I know of the MMSE and SLUMS, but have never heard of The Alzheimer's Disease Assessment Scale. Perhaps this is a different type of measurement? Does anyone know?
