Has anyone ever seen this? My DH is in NH, end stage. Today, while f=visting him he grabbed his head like he was in mortal pain and his face turned bright red all the way to the hairline. I asked him if his head hurt and he said yes. I ran for the nurse. She came and he was still holding his head but his face was returning to normal. She took his blood preasure and it was fine. He had not been doing anything but napping.
I agree..this should be looked at carefully. I don't know if a TIA causes pain or not but I do know that an anuysim ( could never spell that word) can be preceded with a terrific headache of unknown origin.
In the beginning of my husband's dementia, he had what was called "Ice Pick Headaches" terrible pain, he would grab his head...mostly at the temples. The pain would only last maybe a minute, but during that time his face would be flushed.
Yesterday at the doctor's office, my husband's face became meaty red..He had no pain but this was most unusual for him. The nurses asked if he had chest pain or head, neck etc..his answer was no. It didn't last long. Must make a mental note to bring this up to the neuro next time we visit.
Thanks everyone. DH has had a couple "flushed face" events...but no pain, and only lasted minutes. Blood preasure fine. But this time he grabbed the top of his head. Within minutes he said it did not hurt. Again. blood preasure fine! I was wondering if it is AD related or not. Will check with doctor. Thanks again.
My dh has this often. He holds his temples and when I notice he does tell me it hurts. He also turns red. I often wonder if this is something getting worse in his head. It makes me scared. I hate to see him go thru this. In 1989 when my dh got hit in the head with 3000 lbs. of pipe the sharp pains started in his temples. It went away for years but has resurfaced with the dementia diagnosis. At the time he gets these pains his bp is also good.
