I bought myself a new toy - an iPad. First generation, reduced price. It probably isn't logically worth it, though I do love it. However, I have given my daughter and CNA free rein on playing with it.. and the CNA, Andrew, showed my husband several things on YouTube on it. He was fascinated. CATS!! etc. Today I showed him the Smule piano and he played with it for quite a bit, and then the spin art, and he played with that, and was naming colors.. and he's been almost completely aphasic for months. I'm also showing him the photos on it, which he enjoys. He actually holds it, which is unusual.
Have any of the rest of you tried this, and what games do you recommend? My husband is I guess early Stage 7, bedridden; his only adl is feeding himself. Sortof.
I have one and show my wife the photos and she plays with the drums and piano in the Garageband app.
She loves holding it and swiping things with her finger. I think it's great. She finds it interesting. We do youtube alot.. lots of videos of babies playing and laughing.. she loves that. We do the cats too, but we have two cats (Sam And Dave) and they are even funnier than the ones on youtube. I gotta shoot some video one day.
I'm thinking about getting the Ipad 2 with the front and back cameras so we can use Skype to phone friends and family. Of course, they would need to be on Skype as well. It may upset her, but I think it is worth a try. At least that is my rationalization about getting the ipad 2. Maybe for our wedding anniversary.
My husband is actually still using a laptop, but he was intrigued by touching the screen of my iPad 2. Try Pocket Pond and maybe iZen. Skype doesn't yet have a version specially for the iPad, but I hear the iPhone version works fine. I haven't tried it myself yet.
I have an iPhone & I LOVE it. It’s my toy & one of the only things I do for myself! I’ve had mine almost 2 years & I originally got one for my DH. He was having major problems using a regular cell phone, so I thought,”What could be easier? All he has to do is tap on the icon he wants to use.” Silly me! He just could NOT get the hang of it. Our 10 year old grandson tried to show him how to use it. It was really sweet watching him patiently trying to show his PopPop how to use the phone. Then I saw him (grandson) writing something & when I asked him what he was writing he said that he was writing down the instructions so PopPop could follow them. I quietly told him that PopPop wouldn’t be able to follow them. Our grandson knows what’s wrong so he understood. Dh still says he want s a cell phone & I just tell him that we will look into getting him one & that seems to pacify him for the moment.
OT - does anyone have an iPhone that plays Farmville? If so, there is a rainbow apple tree that can only be gifted through an iPhone. If you have one, play farmville (in facebook) and know how to do it, please gift it to me.
