I let our dr. know via e-mail my dh would not be able to pee in the bottle and that he was sleeping all of the time the last few days even fell asleep while eating his breakfast. When we got there, my husband was NOT asleep and the doctor thought he was fine. Today I have had to use the Hoyer Lift as he could not get up and was sleeping while I was using it. Is this a faze? What is going on?????
Brindle, your husband is capable of pulling all of his strength for a couple of hours to seem normal for the doctor.
If your husband is sleeping, why would you use the lift to get him up, unless it would be to take him to the doctor? If you think he is having a UTI, then you need to have him checked out and get medication for him.
did the dr want to get a urine or /and blood sample? if he did and you told him he couldnt pee in the bottle, he should have ordered the nurse to catheter him for a sample - sometimes you gotta wonder. they dont get that these guys cant voice opinions or say if they arent feeling well. plus we know infection isnt always very obvious. if you suspect he could be ill or have infection you should speak to his nurse again and explain your concerns. there are also mobile labs that can come out and get a sample if the nurse or dr can order it.
Mary. I am using the lift as my husband wants to get up for meals and to go outside. He enjoys being up even though he keeps falling asleep. He is just too sleepy to get himself into a standing position. Today was our first day using the lift. Good thing I practiced how to use it. Slow and easy does it. divvi. The doctor did not want to use the catheter and gave me a bottle to take home to see if I could get a sample. They did do blood work but apparently did not find anything unusual. Otherwise, he seems healthy. Dr. thought it might be meds or boredom but I think this is very unusual, but what do I know I only see my dh every day! Hope this is a passing thing. He ate a good dinner.
