Does anyone have a suggestion for a dental and/or vision plan for my husband? He needs to have two teeth pulled and this expense will be competely out of pocket. I thought that at least the sedation would be covered by BC/BS, but no dice. He is 63, on Medicare and BC/BS. I just can't figure this one out.

    Thanks,
    Ann

...actually both teeth are old root canals.....hence the oral surgeon.

ann you may can call these folks and ask for assistance. its the national foundation for dentistry for the handicapped and disabled. they may know how to connect you in your state for some assistance.
also a dental school may be a possiblity?
or if it were me, i'd explain to the oral surgeon that you are limited income and if he can work out a payplan for you over time. i dont know of any dentist that wont do this if you ask. and alot of the times if you say upfront your spouse is disabled they will give you a special discount. many dentists like other drs need to provide certain amounts of hrs for pro bono work (free) as continuing education each year at licensings renewals. they can choose to work probono or at minimum a decent discount.

Thanks, Divvi.......I have already inquired about a payment plan, but it is still too much. He mentioned having an intern doing it. I do believe that is how they have already lowered the rate (or so they have said). When I asked, they said they have given a major discount on the sedation......which I didn't know whether to do or not anyway!

I'm not sure of a dental school in this area. I will research more though....

    Thanks so much!

Check on ameriplan - and there are others like them. the cost is usually 50%. Dental school usually will not do work if the person has to be sedated.

If you a teaching hospital with a dental school near they usually have a department where they work on disabled people and they use sedation. I have taken a friend and her autistic son to one a couple of hours away and they do very well with him. He is lightly sedated and they are able to get everything done.
