Tom lived in my area. I thought it unlikely we would get another "update," given his condition at last report. Here is a link to that last update, for those interested: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=127857149
Sadly, I can only feel relief for both Tom and his wife. He is free, and she can now begin her "after"...
mary22033, thank you for this website and I want to thank the courageous man Tom who did and will continue, even after death, to do wonderful things bringing awareness to those who will listen.
I used to live in Northern VA also and have been following their story from the NPR beginning interviews. I have mentioned on this site several times how much it helped me to listen to their journey and also what a great resource those interviews with Tom and his wife and son are to assist others in understanding what it is like to lead this life. like Mary I also felt relief when I read the news. I am so grateful to them for their honesty. one of the interviews is entirely about his wife's journey. Her story and feelings about her depression through this so closely mirrored my experience and lessened the shame I sometimes felt at not being able to better conquer my depression. what a gift to have those interviews on NPR for all those on this confusing, stressful and often so very lonely journey
I really enjoyed reading his first book and sorry to hear that he has passed on. I am sure he is in a better place now. Feeling sad for his wife and son.
