Has anyone experienced their LO having pain with the onset of sundowning ? For the last week DH has been having stabbing pain just below the rib cage comeing on when the sundowning starts at about 6 PM, it appears to be quite severe, and although I've given him all the medication the Dr. has prescribed, nothing makes it better. He is taking Zanax, Lexapro and Avanza, all when neccessary, but nothing helps this pain - I wonder if it is a panic attack, but one would think one of the above medications would stop it, if that is what is happening. It is dreadful to see him in this way as the confusion is excellerated +++ and he can't talk coherently to tell me about it either. His AZ seems to have worsened over the last two weeks, very confused and lost in the house.
any sign of pain should be evaluated. their inablitity to vocalize how/where makes it important to get them checked out just to be sure. remember gallstones,or kidney stones are horrible and can happen at any time too. appendix, gallbladder, or just as simple as gas like bama says.
Or the nerves to that area could be affected by the disease. I have times of getting shooting pain on my left side just below the breast. It is due to that area of my back being out of adjustment. I would think that it is possible to also have the nerves being affected in the brain sending a signal.
But, you must have it checked out since it has happened more than once or twice and seems to being causing him so much pain.
Before my DH passed he started complaining about pain just below the rib. We went to the ER several times. Nothing was found. He then had a colonoscopy and a test where they look into the stomach and nothing was found. That doctor said it could be from the alzheimers. So what I decided to do was get those round pink mints and give him one when he said he had pain and that seemed to clear the pain up. Phantom pain I guess, but real to him.
I had to take DH to the emergency at the hospital today, his pain was so bad. They gave him some pink brew, took some blood and did an ECG on him and said they couldn't find anything wrong with him, so brought him home again, still in pain. He didn't want any dinner and went straight to bed, so guess he'll be up at any time now ready for his nightly wanderings !! I'll double his medication that he takes for digestion ( Gas) as it is only a mild dose now, and give him some Mylanta mixture and if it is Gas, that should help. I'm inclined to think it may be AZ. related, although he had the pain all day to day, not just at sundowning, so I don't know !! Thanks very much for your replies, they are much appreciated.
