My dh has the habit of going to the water closet, sitting on the privy and removing his glasses and putting them on the floor. I don't need to tell you what happens next. In just the last 5 days he's stepped on them 3-4 times and the other day he broke off a stem requiring us to have to go to town and get it fixed. I see the hand writing on the wall here, but am not sure how to circumvent this BAD habit. Have any of you run into problems like this and if so, any ideas for me??

    Thanks, TT

We have had a problem for many years about taking on and off glasses. DH dies handy man and carpenter work and really needs bi-focals. He takes them on and off all the time and breaks the hinges. He also sets them dosn and looses them. A couple of months ago, he set them on a slanted rock out fishing and, as the saying goes, the rest is history. We, son and I, took him to the store and picked out a camo green neck holder. The kind where the arms on the glasses slide tightly into the ends, so now when he takes them off they stay around his neck. He uses it out fishing and out doors and the problem is solved. He does have a problem with keeping it safe somewhere when he is not using it and then not finding it. So far, I haven't been able to get him to use it in the house. I'm working on that.

May be this will work for your DH.

Two 1/2 suggestions.....get a necklace cord that attaches to the glasses.
    2. Buy the cheapest frames possible, and buy about 6 of them.....they can easily replace the lenses...It is not usually the frames that cost a lot, but the lenses...so get extra frames and you have spare parts.
    3. buy the titanium frames that bounce back in shape...I have these, and I am the worse abuser of glasses...run over them with my mowers, dropped them in toilets, step on them when I forget where I put them, let the dog chew on them instead of doggie toys, etc etc.
My dw has the same problem, so I bought 5 pairs of identical glasses....frames were the $10 variety, and I bought the cheapest lenses possible. She has already lost 3 of them, broken the other two several times, but I still can find spare parts and get the frames fixed...
A bigger problem is dentures....I have found my wife's upper dentures in the wash, in the toilet, in drawers, hiding in pillowcases, and many times in the garbage can.
I now routinely sift through the garbage before I bring it to the curb.....amazingly, I have found money, clothes, underwear, jewelry, phones, tv remotes, credit cards, family photos, and many other unmentionable items. It is not pleasant, but I realize the need to do it...some things are irreplaceable.

You can get an elastic band that fits around the head to keep glasses on but if he just uses them for reading I bought a package of 3 pair of glasses at the drugstore that just magnify enough for him to read and hand them out as needed.

Thanks for your suggestions. I will get more frames and try to get him to use the "necklace" thing. I hope that sifting thorugh the garbage is still a way in the future; although, it's amazing the things that turn up lost. However, most of those things have eventually turned back up again. I'm beginning to stop sweating the small stuff.

In addition to what I posted elsewhere re this week, glasses became issue. PJ pushed a lens out and I can't make it stay in. Since snow and his mobility interfer, have to find way to get them fixed without trying to take him in.
If we ever get new lens, will take suggestions to heart. Tks,
