The VA doctor gave us seroquel for dick in 100 mg dose. Way too strong for him, cut it in half, it still puts him to sleep. He's on reperadol now, twice a day. I've begun to occasionally give him a 3rd dose when he's sundowning. I also still have the Seroquel, and when things get really bad.... I crush it up in his ice cream, and he goes to sleep. Sorry, but you've got to do what you've got to do. He has never struck me, but he wil pound on the table or the wall, kick the furnature across the room throw things.... And obviously, he's not happy when he does that either. Quality of life, at this point is more important than quantity.
Funny you should say that. dick has been saying hes afraid to go to sleep, because he's afraid he'll die. he says this often lately, and he suddenly doesn't know how to go to sleep. Last night I had to insist he take off his shoes. He was afraid someone might steal them. I pointed out that if we got robbed, there ere more valuable things to steal thanhis shoes. (sometimes ou hae to laugh) but he does keep talking about death. and who knows what else. He talks and talks, and noone knows about what. Just aree.
Chris r--my husband now sleeps in his shoes, as well as his glasses. I don't fight him about removing either, it isn't worth it. I'm just glad when he sleeps!
Marilyn & chris, my DH not only sleeps in his shoes & sunglasses, but sometime his baseball cap (but that usually only happens when he is angry with me) Unfortunately some of the nights he goes to bed with his shoes on he wakes up in the middle of the night saying that his feet hurt. Well duh! I tell him it’s because his feet don’t have a chance to rest because his shoes are so tight. So then most of the time he will take them off.
