I'm so sorry for your loss. My deepest sympathy for you and your family. Just like all the others, I was shocked when I sighed on today and read your most heart breaking post. May God's love sustain you though this.
Have been reading the news reports and some of the numerous comments following them. Vickie, how proud you must have been of him for he sounds like such a loving, creative and compassionate person. my heart bleeds for you and am so outraged by this senseless brutality. I am so glad you can keep reading here and posting some. you are so loved and respected here I hope you find support in your family and friends around you.
Vickie, have you heard anything from the accused as why he would have killed BOTH of them?? I cannot imagine anyone doing that. Nor could I imagine what just happened to all those people in Tucson, Arizona either. What is this world coming to, when 22 year olds and younger go berserk in schools and public places and begin shooting at strangers for reasons no one will ever know. God help us all! nancy b*
Nancy - I think a big part of the reason is that the younger generations do not feel they really have a future. Talk to them and they have no dreams, no hopes for a future any different than it is now - just that it will be worse. Young adults - 20s and 30 somethings - want every thing now partly because many baby boomers wanted to make sure their kids didn't have to struggle or do without therefore they think they deserve it now, and partly because they see no real future like we did. Most of us we saw our future as starting out with little, gradually building up to nicer things. For many it was graduate, college, tech school or right into the work force, marriage, a little house, children, empty nest, retirement to travel and enjoy. Morals and values have changed that they don't see that picture now. Why are teenagers committing suicide at a higher rate? I feel really sorry and sad for them. They live for the moment, not for a future. Sadly they see all life as expendable.
Unfortunately, Vickie and families like those in Arizona are paying the price. My heart goes out to you Vickie and all those families that are dealing with the loss of loved ones at the hands of people who themselves may not really know why.
Charlotte, you are so right! I read that Georgia (who is known for having the best scholarship assistance program in the USA called the HOPE Scholarship) may have to stop offering it. It included 100% free tuition & books. Why? The state lottery can no longer fund it. EVERYONE applied for it. The article said that the parking lots at Georgia colleges are universities are filled with late model top of the line cars referred to as HOPEMOBILES. Parents who had the money to pay tuition and books were letting teh STATE provide that and in turn, with that cash, they bought their children brand new expensive cars to drive to and from school. Anyone here remember having a NEW car in school? If I had a car that worked, regardless of the year, I was in heaven. Jalopies were "in". My daughter drove a 'goat"..(Pontiac GTO) that had a quilt on the front seat since the seat covers were worn out. She LOVED that car. It looked good enough to her..and it gave her independence. Now college students drive Lexus and other fine automobiles.
I will not post to the thread again. Just wanted to let you all know the memorial service was wonderful, the sun came out as we came outside the church to the Memorial Garden where his ashes were placed. Family, friends and neighbors have been here for me; as have all of you at Joan's place. What would I do without you?
I feel I can move on now, although there will be many, many more months, maybe years, of finishing up everything.
DH has been very confused during all of this; but is so much better today since everything has quieted down and we are trying to get back into our regular routine.
Maybe I can get back to posting now! I love you all.
Vicki, i am so glad the service was wonderful for you. I hope you and your DH will find peace and a measure of contentment in the days ahead. God Bless.
