I'm so upset. I was getting ready for bed and DH came upstairs to talk about something and he tripped over my oxygen cord. He fell right on his face on the hardwood floor and split is lower lip. I can't see how badly it's cut. It isn't bleeding too much now. He didn't break his teeth.

My cord is green against a taupe colored rug. It's pretty visible. He is so aware that it's there. I feel really guilty about this.

I have a long-standing dr's appt tomorrow morning at my pulmonologist.
I alaready have transportation arranged. I will take him on the bus to our pcp to be sewed up tomorrow morning about 10 oclock. I really don't think it is anything really serious but it does look bad and I feel so awful about it.

(((((((Mawzy))))) so sorry for you and him. You need to not feel guilty and look on the positive that he was not hurt worse.

Sorry Mawsy. You absolutely couldn't help it. Accidents happen and I know cords of all kind are easy to trip over. Having never dealt with oxygen cords I don't have any suggestions that would be helpful. I am afraid this will be happening more as most seem to have trouble "seeing things". Perhaps your pulmonologist will have a suggestion. Would it be an option to use the small, carry on your person type? You take care now, you hear?

Mawzy...I have tripped over my mom's oxygen cord many times, and it is also green against a beige rug. I can see it clearly, but the plastic tubing is made of chemicals that are attracted to shoes. There is a magnetic effect that causes it to wrap around your leg, sort of like a vine. It is not your fault, because I believe the rubber in the cord is magnetic and is attracted to hairy legs...it seems to happen more often to men than women. Sorry to hear you have the same problem as he. I think I will start wearing a helmet and knee pads.

I think that almost all cords are attracted to mens' legs, Oxygen or other. Lamp cords have always been especially reactive with my husband's legs. There is also a phenomenon we call "sidewalk gnomes." They see us coming, and mischievously push up a segment of pavement for tripping over. Sidewalk gnomes are, apparently, a global infestation as we have encountered them numerous places.

Mawzy, hope all goes well at the appointment.

OMG--you guys are too funny. It never occured to me the cord would be attracted to his hairy legs.

This morning his lip is an absolute mess and he is developing a black eye. I'll be lucky if they don't arrest me for abusing him when I get him into the doctor's office this morning. I hope they can sew his lip up. Thank heaven he didn't break his teeth. He came so close to the corner of the desk. He really could have been badly injured. Right now he won't win a beauty contest.

    Thanks for your support.

so sorry about the incident, but like others have said "the older we get the closer to the floor our feet stay". Dr will probably not sew up the split lip if over 24 hours old due to possibility of infection and a sealing of the wound has already taken place. It is not funny when someone falls, but it is hard not to see the comedy of it all. As we age and we all do(except a few) clumsiness just comes and falls happen. Just like children, we cannot pprotect our loved ones from every hazard they face. We just pray that it is never serious just looks bad for a while.
    good luck.

I did talk to the PCP and was told the lip didn't need stitching. It would heal on its ow. Also, I am to watch him for 72 hours for any vomiting, dizziness, blurred vision, etc. If he has any of these symptoms, I'm to take him to Emergency and get a cat scan.

So, I asked him if his vision was ok. He said he guessed it was. No, he wasn't dizzy, he didn't think so. He looked in the mirror and was horrified. He said I've almost ruined my looks.

He doesn't remember how he fell. He doesn't remember that he fell. Can't figure out how come he's all beat up.
