Oh Joan, just another “thing” we have to do ourselves. This year when we opened the attic ceiling door my DH stood on the ladder & didn’t know what to do, so I had to go up the ladder & get the boxes out & hand them down to him instead of him handing them to me. I pretty much knew it was going to be that way, but I had him try first. We haven’t put any outside decorations up, but it’s because of the freezing cold temperatures. If we don’t do it soon I’m not going to do it at all.
Joan, killing bugs, catching lizards, watching baseball, drinking beer, taking out garbage are easy tasks for a man.....I found that cooking, cleaning, doing laundry, planning meals, organizing appointments, and doing makeup are totally beyond the capabilities of any man.... I much prefer to "help" around the house by lifting my feet off the couch for vacuuming, tolerating the noise during a ballgame, throwing my own beer bottles in the trash, and other manly chores..... Most men do not run the household, and some help more than others, but I daresay no man can replace a woman in the house.... Most women have to take over the household maintenance chore, but it is by far, much less and much easier than taking over the women's share... Do I sound like a sexist, or is it someone truthful??
I've actually gotten to the point that I can get the occasional snake out of the house. Of course my driving force is that I don't want anything hurting my precious Gracie. I try very hard not to harm the lizards and frogs that wander in. The only thing that still throws me for a loop is the occasional jar that defies all the gadgets for opening them.
My DH always swept the outside entrance to the basement but it requires that SOMEONE has to go in the basement and unlock the Bilko doors (those heavy metal ones). That requires being able to go into a dark place where all sorts of creatures reside to pull the latch so sunlight gets in. It has been my biggest fear. I think that it will be time to call my son over to do the job :-) I will kill the creepy crawlies but I have to be able to see them first. Other than that I have always taken care of most things around here. My DH was often on call and wasn't home to handle those "man" things.
