Has anyone heard of Nita Scoggan or read her book "BOOST YOUR BRAIN DIGEST"? She claims that she helped her husband's cognitive abilities (he has AD) with this nutrient (Phosphatidylserine (PS) AND A NO-CARB DIET. Are any of you familiar with this?
On May 13, 2003, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration stated "based on its evaluation of the totality of the publicly available scientific evidence, the agency concludes that there is not significant scientific agreement among qualified experts that a relationship exists between phosphatidylserine and reduced risk of dementia or cognitive dysfunction." FDA also stated "of the 10 intervention studies that formed the basis of FDA's evaluation, all were seriously flawed or limited in their reliability in one or more ways." It concludes that "most of the evidence does not support a relationship between phosphatidylserine and reduced risk of dementia or cognitive dysfunction, and that the evidence that does support such a relationship is very limited and preliminary." FDA did, however give "qualified health claim" status to phosphatidylserine, stating that "Consumption of phosphatidylserine may reduce the risk of dementia in the elderly" and "Consumption of phosphatidylserine may reduce the risk of cognitive dysfunction in the elderly". There is hope however. Please visit http://www.smarties.com/ and click on "grown ups.. You can relive your childhood.. There is considerable research and testimony (by me mostly) that smarties can cure reverse the effects of AD. I have been giving my dw one a day for about 8 months now, and just yesterday, she told me that they do not work. I countered..see you are getting smarter and smarter.....
PS is in one of my husband's supplements that he has been using for at least five years. Can't say that it has made any difference. Although I can't say that things like Aricept or Namenda have made any difference either. Who knows.
