DH has a pair of Obis slippers that have a composite sole with a slightly rough surface. I'd like to increase the traction on the sole as the floors in the Care Facility are vinyl and therefore tend to be slippery. Because he is a high risk fall, and is falling already if no one is in attendance, anything I can do would help. Has anyone tried those stair stripes that glue on and have a rough, sandpaper like surface? Or do you have other suggestions?

There is a product that can be cut to size and sewn on to the bottom of socks/slippers - Slipper Gripper. I don't know if that would work for what you need. Here is a link:

I'm not sure the care facility would be happy about sandpaper on their floors...

here is another product - albeit a bit pricey
    http://www.amazon.com/Foot-Petals-Sole-Stopperz-Black/dp/B00110LAXY/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

the hardware store also sells antiskid pads (for furniture), they are about 1/8 inch thick though, so that extra thickness may cause more harm then good...

They used to sell anti-skid decals that you could peel off and put in the bottom of the tub, but I can't seem to find any online...

mary is you can find the type of shoes that you use at the beach, 'water' shoes with elastic tops and soft rubber soles they work very well. i have several for DH and easy to get on the they stretch on top so the fit is good. soles never slip as they are for pool surfaces. you could add a light sock if needed. around the house they are super good for not falling. just an idea. instead of regular slippers. i find they dont stay on the feet too well at times.

I wear canvas deck shoes as slippers - they are pretty good on support, and the soles are rubber.

  1.
Take a comfy pair of slippers, spread gorilla glue on the bottom, and then dip them in sand and let dry. You will be able to walk on walls without falling off.

Thanks for all the good suggestions. He is now using the urinal (one of the advantages of having male aides). Frank, I already have gorilla glue and sand and have been tempted. I'll check out the other options offered by you all.
