I have seen this and it is very interesting.
They say that , we rush 80 year old to the hospital ER and the ER is able to keep them living
We have Thousands on ventalators in hospitals in the US costing billions of dollars a year to keep them breathing.
It sounds so absurd. Everyone is doing their job, maybe too good.
It just goes to show that in the US life is values more, I guess or that no one wants to be the one to say everything was not done to keep Grandpa alive.

It has been on in the evenging around 7:00pm on Frontline. It makes you think about the medical industry and what we are doing.

One doubt I have about placing dh is that the nursing home might do more to keep him alive in case of an emergency than I would want. But if it happened at home I probably would panic myself and go to the ER etc. I think that in theory we agree that we should let them go but it is never the right time for our own LO: NOT HIM, NOT NOW.

Jeanette, I always said that if DH got pneumonia I would not take him to the ER.

I've just been hospitalized with a knee replacement then sent to a rehab facility. iAd to in both instances say what kind of treatment/nontreatment I wanted. Even after all our discussion here it was a bit hard to decide NOT HERE NOT NOW!!

The Frontline show was excellent. You can find it on the PBS website.
