Well, after all my angst and fussing, Thanksgiving dinner turned out great! I roasted my SMALL FREE turkey and also a 5-1/2 lb roasting hen to make sure we had enough plus leftovers.

Our olest son c came into the kitchen and asked if he could help. He mashed the pogtatoes,, finished making the gravy and helped me put everything on the table. After supper the 3 grandsons picked up the table and rinsed the dishes. Then we all had pie and visited and they were all gone by 8 o'clock.

DH helped me finished the kitchen this morning and now I'm busy making turkey soup. It smells so good. Noche has been hanging around talking to me, doing 'figure 8's' around my legs and generall 'kissing up' for some time. I think I'll give him a little broth and see if that's what he's looking for.

Thanks so much for all your support. What a neat bunch of people you all are!

Mawzy, sounds like it was a wonderful day....glad it all went so well for you.

Since I was invited somewhere for dinner yesterday I put a small turkey breast in a stoneware crockpot this morning surrounded by lots of root vegetables. The turkey is wonderful and the broth from the veggies and turkey is going to make a delicious turkey noodle soup.

Let me know how Noche enjoys his soup....

That turkey/noodle soup sounds wonderful. Yesterday I prepared a pan of roasted winter veggies--parsnips, cafrrots, sweet potatoes. I added tht to my turkeky soup. We had it for lunch and it was very tasty.

I poured a dish of kibbles for Noche and added some turkey broth to it. He got right to business and clened it all up. He sat there and licked his chops and then started washing himself. Right now he is on DH's lap. They are both taking their afternoon nap.

Are you making your own noodles? Mother used to do that. My brother and I liked to eat them raw. I've done it but it's quite a bit of trouble. Just wondering.

Hae a great Turkey Soup Day!

I remember the homemade noodles Mom used to make. I loved them but she usually thought it was too much trouble (me too).
Mawzy, so glad your day went well. Good for you. You are an inspiration.

Great idea! I think I will do that maybe tomorrow. I think I have a recipe in the old Betty Crocker book. You mix up the dough, roll it out thin and cut the strips and let them dry for a while on a tea-towel. Is that how you do it? Seems like I remember Mom laying the strips out on a towel on the table. Let me know how your's turn out. I can see those things bubbling away right now. :)

If I remember correctly that is what my mother did when she made Chicken and Dumplings. Now, that sounds really good.

You're right, Bama, my mother did the same, taught me to make those good southern biscuits and chicken and dumplings! I made some yesterday and boy were they good!

Chicken and dumplings--Gosh, it's been ages. I let everyone know they'd be on the table in 20 minutes (after I dropped the batter into the chicken & grvy. They were always there waiting. I cooed them for 20 min with the lid on and they were always so good. As I recall there was always one dumpling that was a little too small and tough. We called it the "runt."

I'm getting so hungry But I've committed mysef to making homemade noodles....)
