Talking to my son Eric and started comparing how LO has been like a new baby since Alzheimer’s got a hold of her. I thought I would list some of the comparisons and ask you to add some similarities you have noticed.

    BEHAVIOR SIMILARITIES/OPPISITES:

New babies are still unknown and we look forward to what they will become,
Sometimes behave by crying, temper tantrum, and even screaming.
Love for them grows as they grow-(sometimes dislike instead)
Remove dangerous things like scissors and automobiles.
    Who is that????
Change diapers and sheets and ???
Baby proof the house for safety!
Traveling is much harder and complicated
    Sleeping schedule changes.
    Etc. Etc.

Add your own observatios and I will combine later.

    Bill and LO Carol

    Not able to talk legibly...
    Walking is difficult...
    Always discovering "new" things...
The need for holding onto something soft and textured...
Eating softer foods...not alot of chewing...

    Don't leave them alone.
Keep meds under lock & key or out of reach.
Try to ensure they are clean and neat looking when going out in public.
Talk to them calmly and softly w/positive words. (most of the time)

I see two lists emerging - one of characteristics of LOs and one of what caregivers have to do. Interesting!

Good idea Janet. Either will do.

cs, I like your positive take on this. It is so true! Thankfully my DH is happy most of the time, and is still holding onto his sense of humor, which always made others smile and laugh!

He wants what he wants when he wants it, and will not take any excuses as to why he can't have it.

They won't tell you when their pants are wet. You discover it when they get off the chair which is soaking wet- again.
