    Hello Everyone,

Yes, it's always something. I invite you to log onto the home page - www.thealzheimerspouse.com - and read today's blog about Sid's FRACTURED KNEE.

Joan-- It is always something. Hopefully the Ortho will be able treat Sid's knee conservatively. May I caution you though about the power chair. Power chairs are for enhancing mobility. Many can go miles on a single charge and they can go several Miles per hour. If Sid is still fairly with-it, as he seems to be, he probably won't have too much difficulty operating one. He then could decide to go to PT or visit your Dad, on his own. My feeling is that choice needs to wait , at least until after a course of treatment is planned.
Just reasons why I didn't let my DH have the power chair his sisters wanted to give him.

I would like him to be able to go to PT or to visit my Dad by himself. Those are 3 minute walks, but I definitely would worry that once he got "wheels" again, he would take off for parts unknown, and I absolutely don't want that. No, I'll just wait to see what the ortho says tomorrow.

Joan, I hope the ortho can come up with something that will help you and Sid. I am so sorry you have a new complication to contend with. Blessings for you both.

You said that you wandered which would be declining faster the brain going faster or the physical going faster(not your exact words) I feel the same way. My DH has parkinsons. I have wandered that a lot because he is, right now anyway, having more trouble physically and that is what is deteriorating faster than the dementia. That will make him become dependant on me for everything a lot faster than the dementia itself. His dementia is bad enough! I am sorry that Sid has this to contend with too. I am sorry that my DH has parkinsons to contend with too! I wish that none of this existed but it does and I like your spunk in saying that we are going to take that trip to Orlando no matter what you have to do. Life has to go on in whatever form it takes.

Joan, the power chair has a governor on the speed control and it can be adjusted to move at a snail's pace. I wouldn't worry about that...and I think he'd LOVE it and so would you. This comes from someone who HAD one - and it was so good to just stroll around outside in the early evening with him by my side...The best part was I wasn't having to PUSH him.

I think those power chairs can be wonderful or a nightmare, depending on the operator. My dh used one at Disney in early stages and it worked great for him at a very low speed and we had no problems. He used one of the electric carts in Lowe's and Sam's a few times in later stages and got along fine. He used our golf cart on our property until his last year when he stopped voluntarily on his own. A couple months ago an elderly man completely knocked my son in law to the floor with one, in plain view of a Wall-Mart employee. He wasn't injured but the WallMart Staff apologized to him and called him at home a couple of times wanting him to go to the ER and be checked out. Be vigilant.

Yes Joan it is always something. DH started yesterday and again this morning worrying if we can pay for this house. We have been married over 44 years and I have ALWAYS handled our finances. I sure hope he isn't going to go on and on about this.

Bless you! I hope things went smoothly with the ortho doc. You do so much for all of us even when your personal plate is overflowing with "stuff." You were very wise to move to your villa when you did.
