CharlotteE - Welcome to the group. I added a note to the "Welcome New Members" topic so that others know that you are here. We've had lots of additions lately. So sorry that you're dealing with this.
Ol don, you're new! Hi, and welcome to our family (or, as someone else called it, our leaky lifeboat.) Care to share more about yourself? Ages of you and your spouse on the two threads Kadee is running? Your situation? Anything we can do to help?
Do I detect another newbie, sneaking into our midst? Hi, sharon, and welcome! Tell us more about you, and about your husband. And tell us what we can do to help.
Hi from New Zealand, can't let the Kiwis down. I have only posted once have been too busy reading all Joan's blogs & now onto dicussions when I get the chance to sit & read that is.
I am living in the beautiful Ozarks in a quaint quirky Victorian town called Eureka Springs, Arkansas, a few miles from the Missouri border. This is a popular tourist destination - I'd welcome visitors!
Moved here from Northern Virginia, a suburb of Washington D.C. 22 years in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Patricia are you from the north or south island? I had the best time ever in my life in New Zealand. Always wanted to visit Australia but my yoga teacher was from New Zealand and covinced me to go there. Nora
Hi Bluedaze, I'm in the North Island a small city called Upper Hutt about 30 minutes drive north of Wellington. Glad you to hear you had a good time in our country.
Have been a lurker (since finding the Coconut Oil thread in Dec.) during a web search. I'm in Winter Haven, Florida (Polk County) which is about half way between Orlando and Tampa. My Mom has Alzheimer's so I'm a semi-caregiver (daughter, rather than a spouse - hope it is okay for me to post.) My father has always depended on my Mother to do most everything (he doesn't hear well and won't wear a hearing aid), so I am getting my caregiver feet wet, along with him.
Welcome kelrote - Glad you are enjoying this site. Are you using the coconut oil for your Mom? If so, any result? Glad you are able to help your father.
Thank you lmohr. Have not ordered any of the oils yet for Mom (she is APOE4 positive) but after reading Dr. Newports posts, I plan to order both Coconut Oil and the MCT. I only get to check this site every few days but find TONS of Great Info here. Sunshyne is like a RESEARCH GURU! She's DOING all the indepth reading and boiling down of all the medical research that I wish I had the knowledge or expertise to do myself. And in all my web surfing, I'd never heard of the coconut oil (and Dr. Newport) until finding this site in one of my ALZ web searchs. Made me ANGRY I'd not seen it anywhere else (and had ONLY found you guys here by accident). Very glad I did! THANK YOU ALL!!!
I'm in Central Florida and looked at ordering the MCT by mail. Description lists glass bottles. Has anyone had any breakage ordering this way? Or know of any good outlets to purchase MCT & Coconut Oils in person, in Central Florida? (I'm between Orlando & Tampa). I've called a couple local places and they don't carry it. Tips or suggestions greatly appreciated.
I ordered mine on the Internet and it came well packed with no problem. Our local Health Food Store carries the coconut oil in 16 oz. up to and including gallons. They didn't have the MCT Oil but I haven't checked for the fluid yet.
I ordered MCT oil on-line from "AllStarHealth.com". It came in a glass bottle, well protected, with no problem (except that due to the extremely cold weather it had congealed). I have gotten Coconut oil and MCT Fuel from our local healthfood store. Right now I'm using only the MCT oil and have not noticed any changes in DW.
Did have a problem with breakage when Discount Anabolics shipped, but not with AllStarHealth. Haven't found MCT oil in stores, yet.
MCT Fuel comes in plastic bottles, and I have found that in several healthfood stores around town, although I'm ordering that via internet just because it's easier (and less expensive).
Not buying coconut oil any more, too much evidence it's bad for you.
It finally occurred to me that Sandy D stopped posting so I couldn't chew her out for getting me tangled up in trying to prove it was healthy. <grin>
Yeah, but I didn't pay attention to you. A fact for which you should be grateful (this once.) Although it does give you the right to say "I told you so."
I'm in Los Angeles, near LAX. Look out the right side of the plane when arriving & you'll see my house just before touchdown. DH & I were both born here, met in grammar school, about 10 yrs old, and the kids all said that he loved me. We've been here & there briefly for this & that, but Los Angeles has always been our home.
Marilyn65, I certainly know Fellsmere -- we used to drive down to Marsh Landing for dinner on bluegrass night sometimes, but unfortunately my DW is no longer able to do that.
Gourdchipper, don't know if you know this or not but Marsh Landing use to be the office building for the sugar mill. They use to grow a lot of sugar here and after the company was sold they turned it into large groves.
