bluedaze, I know where Spanish Park is located. We live in a mobile home park the other end of town. We had a home in Largo (Pinellas County) before moving here 19 years ago.
And Joan, if you do a poll, I'd be really curious to know what percentage of us are in thesse categories: a) dealing with EOAD or its equivalent b) on second marriages where you're dealing with stepkids, much older spouse, etc c) older couples where the member here is starting to have health issues themselves
We seem to be, just from what I've observed, about equally divided here into those thirds.
If anyone has the time to put into it (and Joan doesn't - she has her hands full with this website and the offshoots that have now come to her) - they could print this discussion, make a chart on Excel with names and states, then go back to the beginning discussions and add from our comments, add ages, stages, EOAD, FTD, MCI, and those with children. We would all love to have a copy! <grin>
I've thought about it, but with a full time job, and trying to find a place for adult day care right now, I don't have the time.
OK, I didn't know of this thread before so I went through the whole thing. Forgive me if I missed anyone, but I think I found all the Pacific NW who posted.
Country Girl (Amboy, WA) Kathy37 (Happy Valley, OR) Marge (Seattle, WA) Mawzy (Federal Way, WA) Carole (Aberdeen, WA)
and me, New Realm. I live in Kalama, WA. 36 miles north of the Interstate bridge (I-5, OR/WA). And 130 mi. south of Seattle.
You might want to add Frand. She is in Oregon. They just got back there this weekend from their travels. Her husband is having gall bladder surgery this week.
I will be sure to look you up. I don't make it to visit her very often. She usually comes here every year of so. If we got together, I bet we would compare notes and giggle the whole time, especially if my DS was with us. I better make it out to see her while my DH is still able to care for himself. May be next summer.
Kadee, We lived in Evansville for about 2 years. DH worked at the univ., going for a slower pace than previous jobs. Many problems, as AD snuck up on us. DS is grad student here. I was visiting/supporting him thru his own medical problems and decided, since I couldn't be in 2 places at once, it would be better to put those "2 places" in one place. Leaving the humidity for beautiful Abq. was just the bonus. DS lives with us (that's my version). He's a great support to have and I support him as needed. Win-win situation. PatB
Well, being new to this site it certainly was interesting to hear where all of you are from but none close to me-north central Wisconsin-close to Upper MI border. The two of you close to St. Charles and one by Jefferson Barracks bridge in St. L -I'm familiar with those areas as my son and family live in Kirkwood. I occasionally drive there(when I get up enough courage) We used to live in Rolla, MO. Sandy
hildann and carosi, I see you are both from Grand Rapids. I'm about 50-60 miles SSW of Alpena. That at least a 5 hour drive from Grand Rapids. I live in wooded area, where there are deer, squirrels, turkeys, fox, racoons, a bear about 6 years ago, cayottes(did I spell that right?), moles (in my grass), and several types of birds. No freeways, malls, museums, theaters, sports arenas, and whatever else in urbans areas. Also, no AD places of any kind closer than Alpena.
I just scrolled through this and see that we have a lovely representation from the great Pacific NW--God's country except when it hits over 90 and then we perish from the heat. And, also on those days when we get 2-3 inches of snow--Oh, how we suffer (smile). This was quite fun.
Mary in Montana: when ny husband was in the Air Force we were stationed in Great Falls MOntana....loved it there, it is a beautiful state and marvelous people. Sandy: I go to KIRkwood to shop ...ii has a wonderful atmosphere of small specialty shops. The railroad station is picture postcard stuff.
Carewife, there are so many wonderful little places around St. Louis to shop. I bet you have been to Kimmswick....the Blue Owl Restaurant there is wonderful...any of you who ever get to the St. Louis area...please plan to stay for awhile....we have so much to see and do.
FTD, no I'm not from New Jersey, but I am from Eastern Pennsylvania. There doesn't seem to be anyone from either area, so I'm about as close to you as it gets. That has been the way it is for almost everyone. There are a very few people who located others close enough to meet once or twice. The rest of us are separated geographically.
What part of New Jersey? I lived in Totowa Boro back in the mid-80s.
