Our home is near Flint Michigan. Have been spending part of January and February in Florida Panhandle for several years. In December 2008 DW fell on ice and fractured her shoulder. Don't want to risk that again so we may try to spend most of winter in Florida next year.
danielp, I love the Florida Panhandle, in previous years we went to Destin/Fort Walton Beach area many times. Beautiful sugar white sand & emerald green water. Oh, how I miss those days.
Hi gmaewok - nice to have another Washingtonian here. I am from that opposite part of the state - Vancouver. WE do have others from Oregon/Washington here too.
Kadee- Destin is where we've been going. You're right, the beaches are spectacular. Rental rates are quite reasonable before April 1. Not as warm as southern FL, of course, but there's no snow and on the winter solstice there is one hour, 11 minutes more daylight than we have in southern Michigan ;-)
Has anyone tried Gulf Shores, Alabama? Rates are reasonable, beaches are great, fishing is good, the people are warm and friendly, and I love the shopping. Great places to eat also. Sounds like I am a member of the Chamber of Commerce but I really love Gulf Shores. Panama City ain't bad either.
I am a native Californian who now lives in San Diego. I am taking care of my Mom. I am married 10 years, with no kids, but we do have 2 dogs. We also had 2 cats but they died. (sob)

Janet has been keeping track of all of this, and has sent me a chart with all the information. Anchor20 also made a nice chart. I appreciate all of their hard work, and I am planning, and tried to do it today - to make a separate section on the left side of the home page for "Where are We From". Well, my web design software had other ideas. I'll get my computer geek over here to do it as soon as I get some time out from all the emotional stress.
In the meantime, keep posting where you are from - I have confidence that my computer geek can do anything.
Joan..your computer geek needs to know how much we value his work...We do not know who he is, but certainly is a pioneer in helping us find our way...He is the shining light in this dark tunnel, and I want to personally thank him for all his devotion and hard work. Let him know how valued it is.
Since you are fairly new, you are not aware of how this website started. My son in California set it up for me, sent me the web design software, and did 99% of the technical work for the first 3 months. After that, he taught his little old mother how to do it, and since then I have gradually learned to do 99% of the technical work myself. But since the website has grown so much, it needs a lot more than my expertise, and he doesn't have the time. With the payments I have received to help run the site, I have been able to hire someone to do the more advanced work. He has cleaned up quite a few messes. Unfortunately, I've been so totally wrapped up in the emotional drama that has been going on here for a month, that I haven't had time to call him to do more. Hopefully next week.

Anyone from Chattanooga area and know if there is a domestic violence shelter there? I need somewhere for my daughter to go to until we can make arrangements for her to come back to Washington.
Charlotte, I would suggest you call the Police Department in Chattanooga for the information. They should be able to put you in touch with the proper authorities. Good Luck
