About 8.00pm DH got up out of his recliner to go into the kitchen. He wasn't real steady walking and just as he got in the kitchen he went down on his face. I managed to get him half sitting up and he had a cut on his forehead between his eyes and one across the bridge of his nose, both bleeding like crazy. I got him cleaned up while he was still sitting and put bandaids on. He didn't want to try and get up and there was no way I could get him up myself. After a while he managed to stand and I helped him to his recliner. About 9.00 he decided to go to bed so I helped him to his bedroom and told him to forget about his pajamas, got his pants (which were bloody) and socks off and got him in bed. He is still asleep at 8.00am. I went in to check on him and he was sleeping okay. This is the first time he has fallen since June when he fell twice which is why we moved from the condo. I am wondering if this is a sign of things to come. I will see how he is when he gets up and if he is still unsteady and/or confused I may call 911 and take him to the hospital. If he can't walk properly I don't think I could get him into the garage and in the car and I know I would have to get a wheelchair at the hospital to get him inside.

jean what a scare you had and him too. not to be alarming but a fall to the head may warrant a trip to the ER. if hes sleeping more than normal you may want to call his dr too. i may be wrong but sometimes larger dosings of seroquel and or these potent meds can have balance issues as a side effect. they work well for the intended problems but can add other unwanted side effects. and if i remember you have upped his doses recently .. you are right in thinking if hes falling you may not be able to keep him home as planned. its one of the breakers with decisions to place earlier. hugs, i hope hes better soon, but be cautious with him on his feet,

divvi, DH got up and took his morning pills and went back to bed. I asked him how he was and he said okay but his forehead hurt, he didn't want an Advil. It would be hard to know if the fall would make him sleep more because he slept quite a lot anyway. If he gets up I will be able to see how he is rather than him lying in bed. Calling his doctor wouldn't work either. When I call his office I have to press numbers to get to the voice mail of his nurse and tell her the reason I am calling then she talks to the doctor and calls me back. Of course this is if it is a week day, I doubt any call to his office would work on a Saturday!

I have 24/7 Nurse call assistance through my suppliment Insurance. I have called them before to ask for advice. The phone number is on the back of my card. Also, I have a good relationship with my Pharmacist who I ask for advice about med situations occasionally. Some help when outside of regular office hours.

most drs will have an oncall dr taking their calls on weekends if they are unavailable but if you are in a smaller town they usually leave a recording to visit the ER if its an emergency on a weekend. you know him best if hes ok and just a bit bruised a trip or call may not be warranted. if it were me i would follow up with dr on monday and let them know he fell and if the meds hes on would have that as side effect. as we know some folks dont tolerate high dosess of different medications. my DH can barely tolerate a childs dose of any med at this point without complications.
hope hes back to his annoying self later jean.. haha.. ok maybe not so annoyiung. at least you know hes back to normal.

DH got up about 10.30, I asked how he was and he said he felt kind of shaky. In the next breath he said he was hungry and laughed! He ate a banana and had pancakes and sausage. He is now reading the newspaper and drinking his coffee. He wet the bed some so I am now washing sheets and the bloody pants from lastnight. I told him he doesn't need to be going outside and picking up leaves, he could fall in the street and I really can't get him up. He agreed but we'll see how long that lasts when he's feeling okay.
