My daughter used to take care of a little boy with Muscular Dystrophy. He was about 10 years old and wore full leg braces. He was very heavy and couldn't walk very far at all. She got a handicap tag and when she had him in the car, she parked in the handicapped spots. Made it a lot easier for the little guy.

The last job I had we had two handicapped spots right in front. Some of the inconsiderate people would park in those if they were running a minute or two late. One day my boss got on the PA system and in loud, bell-like tones, told everyone parked in the handicapped spots to vacate them and park someplace else.

We had a young man working there who was a paraplegic. He also wore full leg braces and used two cruthes that slipped over his forearms. It was pouring down rain that day and I looked out the window just in time to see this fellow pulling his car out of the handicapped spot and reparking. He then labored to get across the parking lot and back into the building.

I told my boss about it. He was so embarrassed. He told me to go tell the kid that he could park there. I told my boss that I wasn't going to be the one to tell him he was handicapped. Mr. Boss was the one who made the announcement. He should be the one to correct it.

He really took a lot of heat for that one but he eventually went and talked to that kid. All was forgiven but I really felt for Mr. Boss that day.
