I am 56 and have coverage with Blue Cross Blue Shield with a $2500 deductable and I have no coverage for kidney stones or prostate issues. I pay $388.00 per month for the new premium cost. This seems high to me. I wanted to know what others in my age group are paying. I find it unfair when it comes to getting a quote. To get the real price of a policy you have to send in 1 months premium to get a real quote. Then you wait 30 days for them to process the application. This process does not lend itself to getting a competitve price.
That sounds reasonable to me, although I have coverage through my employer. After my husband went on Medicare I dropped him and son from my policy. It was costing me $13,000/yr to insure them through my company policy- even though my coverage was free. I got our then 19 yr. old son a policy through BCBS for $96/month with a $5,000 deductible.
I'm told that if one belongs to a Credit Union, they can apply for health insurance through their group rates. Because of the number of members, the rates are highly competitive. It's worth a look-see in your areas.
My husband retired from DuPont, and his retirement package included health insurance. I never thought much about it until the past few years when I read about what others pay (who knew?) for health insurance each month. I am so blessed to have been allowed to keep this policy intact after he died. I wasn't sure if I would or would not!!!!! I pay less than $100 a month premiium and my deductable is $1500. Includes Medco for drugs. (and Dental). Thank you dear husband!!
We have my husband's retiree health benefits with a $250 deductible but the monthly payments of $655 are really hurting. This covers my husband and myself. He is eligible for Medicare in December but since he is under 65 his retiree health benefits are still primary, so the rate won't go down. We also pay 20% of the drug costs. I don't know if it will go up next year.
I plan to retire the first of the year and will be able to keep my group insurance for 18 months through COBRA, but I have to pay for it. It will be $400 per month. With a $1250 deductible.
The cobra sounds cheap. I was paying $850.00 per month for both of us when I left the company. Once Cobra was out DW went on medicare and I was on my own to find something Obama care is great.
I am 53 and I just got medical insurance with Blue Cross but it is the Blue Cross Blue Shield Pool which is medical insurance for low income people and it is based on income. I pay 131.00 with a 500 dollar deductable. I had never heard of the Pool before until a friend of mine got it and I have had it less than a month and it has already paid for itself in the cost of my medication.
