Hello all - it has been A LONG TIME since I have posted, but I am in need of some BIG HELP!! My husb has been incontinent for a while and I've "managed" with the cleansing to some degree, but recently he's had UTIs and I cannot get him "smelling clean" - - I have tried ALOE VESTA foam/no rinse and it works, although not as well as I think it should. He has always used IRISH SPRING liq soap and even "leaving it on" for about 5 min in the private area places x2 still doesn't do the trick. What products/brands specifically is anyone else using who is faced with this problem? Thank you!!
natsmom, Carraafree/Carrascent odor eliminator sprays say they are for feces/urine/colostomy odors and are on the medline.com pages. or you can google them about 4dol/bottle. we also use medline REMEDY foaming body cleanser or spray for everyday use at changes. its supplied by our hospice and i love it. its very good for cleaning up and no rinse too. tear free/non hypoallergic/non sensitizing so we've had no issues. i would recommend both these. i googled and saw about 4dol /bottle for each. i would buy on my own if i hospice didnt supply them at this point. divvi
Thanks, Divvi. I didn't know your husb was on Hospice -- Mine has been on/off/on since mid-July for UTIs that leave him unable to walk. Currently he is "on", but for how long, I do not know. If u don't mind me asking, how long as he been on? Is he still able to walk? just curious. Thanks again for the info.
natsmom, he qualified in jan this yr. and he had a bad kidney infection in spring which requalified him too. uti is a constant worry here as well. his mobility is limited to a few steps to get to shower with help of 2 persons holding him. hes a fall risk now. things go south rather quickly in stage 7. i hope you can requalify its such a major help. i have to be very vigilant with mobility now and in bed alot with skin issues. these 2 cleansers have worked well and dont irritate like some others. good luck!good to hear from you! divvi
Divvi, I was wondering how you were. I posted on September check in, but just found this, so now I know. So sorry to hear how down hill things have gone. I know it must be really difficult. I've been so out of touch withdrawing from an antidepressant and have been too exhausted to even check on things here. I'm on my way back to the land of the living now. Take care ♥
Kitty, good to have you checking in. Divvi, I can't find that price, all i can find is about $12. I need some of these products too. Are there retail stores that carry this stuff?
jeanette i found several that sell the products. 'no rinse' products. you may can check out this site. its showing free shipping now. the no rinse was about 5dol/bottle and some may be a bit more but you can google the products you decide on by name and they will show more results to compare prices at other websites. we are using these products since jan and so far so good. the carrascent odor spray is 4.76dol /bottle on sale. type in the search box here at allegromedical-i havent used this site but it looks fine and BBB bureau rated. divvi
natsmom, Our hospice supplies us with the secura, it is also wonderful for the odor http://www.thefind.com/beauty/browse-smith-+-nephew-secura-moisturizing
scroll down to the one that shows $7.50 per bottle on the left side of the screen.
We also use Aloa Vista foam for daily cleansing of his bottom.
Tonight, I hope, CNA Andrew comes back from his respite (rock festival). My daughter and I have been caring alone for my husband since last Friday. Andrew can get him into the bathroom and shower, and really washes him off, but we can barely get him onto the commode (and let us say, it hasn't been pretty) so I definitely need to pay attention to this stuff now. One bottle did come with our hospice CNA, but I need to get more for Andrew to use too. So this is perfect timing.
Every day he gets quieter and quieter unless we're handling him, when he yells like crazy as he has all along. Still eating, though. Still watches Curious George.
Jane, how's yours? I begin to feel like we're doing a steeplechase game, you and Mary and Divvi and I, all with late-stage at-home guys. And you, Marsh, with your wife.. you know, you throw the dice and advance your horsie nearer the finish line..
Thanks for the info on the products y'all. And you can add our "horse" into the race as well...late-stage, still @ home guy. Until these recent UTIs, he's been sorta holding his own. No speech whatsoever most of the time, still eating, but must be fed - can't even figure out how to hold a glass or what it is when I put it to his lips...must tell him what is happening at all times and then things go smoother, of course. Still walking unless UTI, but only with guarding for falls. Cannot do anything else, but does still smile, and THAT is a blessing for me!! I will investigate these products & move forward...Thanks again! Good to be back, even if only for a bit. Thankful to have y'all still here after all this time (6 years +). HUGGS!!
