I need to start putting in a hour a day on weekdays to study for a complex licensing exam I am required to do for work, I can't study at night since DH is stage 6 amd there is lots of sundowning going on requiring pretty much constant supervision. As a result, I can't focus. I thought I would start getting up earlier at 4:30 to study so I could get in at least an hour before he is up. Now he is starting to get up too. Any ideas to keep him in bed so at least he gets 6 hours of sleep and I can study? Does anyone use over the counter sleeping aids? Other thoughts?

Drugs!!! Better Living Through Chemistry...(We were DuPont People, but that motto works here too.) Trazadone was very effective for us.

Nothing has worked so far w/hb. Latest was Trazadone. New neurologist said no more trazadone and no lunesta. I'm thinkin' ball bat. Just kidding--sort of. lol He suggested seroquel might work for sleep, but didn't give me a script. Said an EEG and SPECT scan might be in order. I didn't know exactly what latter was all about; so have been reading on internet. So, friends, what do you think of all the testing? Especially SPECT since I consider it "invasive." All of this isn't going to change anything, I'm thinking, so why put us through it. Experiences and opinions are welcome, please and thank you.

I am leaning toward the bat......lol.....but Zibby, I don't know about you, but I will not have anything invasive done on my dh for anything. He is suppose to have a knee restruction for a total knee replacement that he had 2 years ago that went bad, but I have decided not to go thru with this. The fact that the original total knee did not work, does not make me want to put my dh thru the trauma of all this. He is having problems telling me what he is feeling already, I don't want to make this worse. I would say no test invasive or not. Why? What good will it do other than for our own personal knowledge. We already know the outcome of this horrible disease, and what is it even doing to us, I think we have to simply decide when this disease is going to stop getting more of us and our loved one. I hope this is not offensive, but this is just my suggestion. It is not going to be an easy decision, but you will make the best one for ya'll....God Bless you with whatever you do.

dog, I hate to tell you but NOTHING made Charlie sleep which is the main reason he is in placement. The doctors tried everything that should work. None of them did. For him. Do not give up. Others here had had good results with sleep medication. Just keep trying.

Thank you, mammie; that's the way I'm leaning: what purpose is there when it helps neither of us and we know "the conclusion of the whole matter."

ehamilton, we haven't found anything, as I mentioned, that works yet, either.
