Eternal rest grant unto them, Oh Lord...and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace...Amen. And bring strength to all who survived and for those who fight for world peace... I will never forget ♥
December 7, I was standing with friends watching a long convoy of soldiers going by. The day the war ended my friends and I joined the crowds celebrating in downtown Birmingham. I was in the barber shop with son when President Kennedy was assasinated and on 9-11 I was on a treadmill at the gym. Yes, we always remember what we were doing on those days.
Bama- then you were a child when I was and knew men from the 'War to End all Wars.' It was good to know there would be no more wars! Ha! A group of neighborhood teen-aged boys came by my house in Los Angeles when WWII ended, "We're going downtown to celebrate, come on." My Dad stood in the doorway and said, 'no way.' I was furious. Really, he was such a good father, a sweet man. I had to have a teen-aged daughter of my own to understand.
Yes, I remember when JFK was shot and FDR died. No, don't remember Lincoln--not yet THAT old.
