This is a problem I'm beginning to see with DH...my dear friend dubbed it "Pe-Can" since he has begun peeing where he can! I suppose we have to find humor any where its available, however when you find puddles in the corner, in the hallway etc., it loses a little of the humor (especially when you step in said puddle). I'm sure someone here has been through this and wonder what your solution has been. What an interesting life we have! Always something new.
Search "incontinence" and you'll read more than you probably care to about this issue:) And, yes, those dealing or have dealt w/it have a sense of humor. I'm learning "there's nothing new under the sun" where dementia behaviors are concerned as in life. Someone, someplace has already had or is having same experiences as others; so "search" the discussions is an excellent tool. Thanks, again, Joan.
You are so right Vickie. I have hardwood and laminate and it's much easier. I do have 2 area rugs in the living room and dining room, that I'm thinking of pulling up now too.
My husband started doing this during the week before he got taken to the hospital and then the nursing home. It is now his pattern. The head nurse on his floor thinks she has found one of his "tells." She noticed that if he is walking fast he is looking for a place to go, and had the aide take him to a bathroom. Now they are watching for that behavior.
