I am clueless. I thought I had learned a lot about caregiving, I was wrong. For those of you who are as clueless as I am, did you know that with a doctor's prescription, Medicare will pay for:
Adult diapers Wipes Latex gloves Chux Donuts (not the Krispy Creme kind, the sit on kind) Walkers Wheelchairs Shower seats Whatever you call the things you put on the toilets to make them higher
Am I the last to know? Sid is not ready for the incontinence stuff, but my father needs everything I listed. I hired a personal aide for him, who runs a group home for develpmentally disabled adults, and he told me about all of this.
could be too if they are medical necessaries thru dr rx they are tax deductible if not paid by medicare? maybe one of our gurus will know. yes i knew they are paid with scripts if rx'd by dr. also geri chairs too. hospital beds, etc. divvi
Joan--are you sure about the disposables like diapers, wipes, gloves, etc.? Medicare covers durable medical equipment like walkers and wheelchairs ordered with an rx, but a quick Google of the disposable things looked to me like it doesn't. The incontinence supplies it seems to cover are catheters (permanent).
Joan, You are not the only one who was clueless. I found out when I went to lease a wheelchair, that Medicare would pay if we had a script. I was told by the Medical Supply Store, Medicare would pay for 12 months, then I would own the wheelchair.
A good store can do a lot. Our insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield, not yet Medicare) paid for a hospital bed for 10 months instead of for 12, but we still owned it at the end of that time.
http://www.medicare.gov/Coverage/Home.asp you can enter your state to see whats covered under medicare.
joan i did a google and found that its sounding like if you are a MEDICAIDE recipient then all incontinence products are covered. they arent normally part of medicares coverage unless they are used in conjuntion with catheters collection cups. etc...
medicare does cover durable medical equipment though. divvi
Yes, I know some of you have the disposables covered under Hospice, but I don't. I have, however, kept receipts and deduct them at tax time. Upcoming will be for the third year!!
