Has anyone traveled with their spouse when incontinence has become a way of life? If so, how did you handle it without damaging someone else's property? I rented a place for my daughterand 2 young grandkids for a few days and am wondering if we can keep on top of the issue if he comes.
dog the only time it happened to me was in a hotel room. DH messed the bedding and sheets during the night. the urine soaked the mattress pad and onto their mattress. mortified was the word. i called housekeeping to come after stripping the bed. after that if i went anywhere, even family i took my own waterproof pad for beds chairs and couches for him to sit on ALL the time. and i can only insist on those plastic cover panties called sani pants over the depends to keep it all in the depends til changed. they help alot so things dont leak out. dont forget the car seats if you travel a plastic backing pad will help cleanup faster if they get carsick or 'go' while traveling. i would cover every furniture and bed he will use while renting. i hope you have a good time and things go well~~~just be vigilant.
Dog, as divvi says, you have to be vigilant and take lots of green garbage bags, super absorbent paper/waterproof pads and our felt covered rubber pad. At night, I put a maxi pad inside the depends and have the rubber pad, then the super absorbent pads (two) over it before helping him to lay down. He has a gel cushion to sit on, and I place a green garbage bag on the seat of the car, his gel pad and a super absorbent pad over that for riding in the car to protect the carseat.
In someone's home, I take the bag, gel pad and pad into the house and place it in the chair he will sit on. He doesn't know what we're doing, and the gel pad protects him from bruises and sores from sitting so much.
Make certain that they have a waterproof mattress cover on the mattress your spouse will sleep on. and old blankets on the bed.
We've had great luck with this combination. Easy clean up.
