DH is in a nursing home. When I went to see him today he was more confused than I've ever seen him I asked the nurse if she had noticed that today and she had. She said that tomorrow she would try to get a urine sample to check for UTI. Guess my memory is getting short too, but seems like I remember some of you talking about how UTI's make them act. HELP!
Just be glad he is there and not home... (added later) UTI's can turn them into entirely different people. Theycan be aggressive, but more often they are just so edgy..picky...aggravating... and (bless their sweet hearts) they become a real pain in the BU**!
I have to add, that three weeks before my husband died, he had a major UTI,.. with antibiotics (CIPRO) and I'm not sure it was entirely cured before he slipped into his final coma. From walking, talking and fussing....to dead in 3 weeks.
I think any question you have about UTI's can be answered by copying and pasting this link: http://thealzheimerspouse.com/vanillaforum/search.php?PostBackAction=Search&Keywords=Uti&Type=Topics
It is the list of UTI topics on these message boards. I didn't realize how much information there was until I did a search for UTI.
O.K. Nancy, He wasn't acting mean. He just kep t repeating things over and over. Wondaering when we were going to get off and where were we going next. Then he start worrying about not having any money. There was no end ot it. I just kept trying to pacify him.
carolyn yes uti can cause without a doubt confusion and out of the ordinary personality change. and it comes on very fast. follow up on that sample first thing. he may need antibiotics if it is uti. if they cant get a clean urine sample in a cup they will catheter him which is a sure way. hope hes better soon. divvi
We've been back and forth with UTI's for months. Even before he broke his hip (March).... He still has burning urine, and we are off to the urologist for a cyctoscope tomorrow..... He did Cipro, something else, and even stopped anything that could be the cause, like Pepsi. right now, no infection, but the burning urine continues. Sometimes he actually cries out when peeing. and yes, during this time, off and on, we have dealt with all sorts of personality changes. i blame the uti for his falling and breaking his hip.
Our doctors here (2) said Cipro was the best drug for this one particular infection...He took it for 7 days and it worked like magic. He was prescribed 7 tablets...no more. I recall people were hoarding Cipro after 9/11 because it is the only drug that will counteract Anthrax poisoning. I was disappointed the bottle only contained 7 tablets. haha.
