I read an article today on the CNN web page about a program in Atlanta, GA, where AD patients go once a week to an art class. There is an accompanying video. I wish we had something like this around here, since DW has done lots of paintings over the years. We even showed some of her paintings here at our retirement home.

My SIL goes to Easter Seals in Manchester, NH. She is always painting. She has paintings in oil and water color that she has done. The oil is very good - the water colors look like a child did them.

Charlotte, I always found water colours harder to do because you have to work fast to get the changes in shadow etc. blended. I haven't done any painting for ages. Maybe I can get back to it AFTER!

MARSH you could always get adventurous and buy your own paints and let her rip in the kitchen or patio! supervised of course. put a paper bib on you both and newspaper on the floor!i think painting is such a release and great quiet time.

Acrylics dry quicker than oils, and are washable (for clean up).

I never tried Acrylics. Water Colours, Oils and Pastels. Now NOTHING!

Was probably acrylics that she used, not oils. They are easier to clean too.

Marsh, maybe you can put the bug in someones ear to start an art therapy class there at your complex. I would bet others would enjoy it too.

My wife was a professional artists, as in she was paid a salary for her art work.

Now she is mid level AD and seems to have no ability to do art, and surely has no interest.

This crushes me of course, because she could really move paint.
