I have just put this very poorly written article up on the home page under "Breaking News". The reason I was so upset with the article, is that it makes the son appear unstable and abusive. There is so much underneath and between the lines of the story that no one familiar with AD will every understand. The man's father has had AD for TWENTY YEARS!!!!! Can you just imagine what his son, as his caregiver, has been going through. Please read the article and tell me what you think.
OMG that poor man, both men, actually. At least he'll get some relief in jail! All the effort people like us put into educating the public & they still don't get it.
I agree with Bettyhere*, but beyond that this isn't even an article--so poorly written. Actually like 1/2 a soundbite from a movie (not even a trailer) and then interpreted without enough verifiable data to back up the interprtation.
Thank you Betty for replying. It is a sad story,, much not said. Was any other family helping him, giving him respite? If he is 44 and it has been 20 years then that means he was 24. To have lost all those important years in adult life is sad. He must love his father very much to sacrifice so many years for him or did he feel he had no choice? Whatever, Ii really feel for the man - he gave so much and now what? I do hope they deem it caregiver burnout, give him the help he needs to go on in life. I am glad he didn't shoot anyone.
It sounds like a cry for help. To think that he has spent the prime of his life caring for his father is so sad. Praying he gets the help that he and his father both need. The fact that he didn't shoot his Dad is proof enough that he wasn't out to harm anyone.
It just proves once again that the average person does not have a clue about ALZ. What really got me was his relatives saying thay were happy to see him walking down the street. Where were they for the last 20 years? I at least can't blame relatives because there aren't any, it's just me and DH. I cannot believe the person with the filthy mouth and threats with a metal pipe. He needs anger management and lessons in English. If the police charge this man with anything it will be a miscarriage of justice.
I didn't see anything saying he'd been THE Caregiver for 20 years. Too much missing in the 'article' to make it a reliable piece. As was asked--where was the family? Where were the medical suopports?
Marsh, I just read your comment so it was accepted. We don't know the circumstances but we do know there are times that we are frustrated and that is putting it mildly. Twenty years ?????
