As some of you know we/I was having a LOT of problems with my SIL in Ohio. We went up there last week and finally got her to go into assisted living. She really didn't have a choice because she was being evicted from the seniors apartment she was in for all the problems she had caused since February. She thought she could just stay there but there was no way they would let her.

We are now back home and I think my DH is feeling more relaxed. I know I am.LOL. I can't believe how uptight and tense I had been for all these past months. I am convinced that is why I fainted at a church function in May. I just hope my SIL doesn't cause anymore problems. I had the ALF set it up so they would give her her pills each day. It is an extra $10.00 a day but if it keeps her from raising h--l it is worth it. She has the money and it might as well be used for her care.

It is good to be home and not have to worry about my SIL. By the way she got mad at us and told us she didn't want anything to do with us again. My DH called her from the motel the day before we left and she told him she didn't want anything to do with him.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad you're back, safe and sound, and that your SIL's situation is improved. (Hopefully, she will remember she's not speaking to you. :-)

<giggle> You know, it really would be funny if she forgot that she isn't talking to you at this point in the game.

I liked your other comment better.LOL When we arrived home from Ohio there were 2 hangups on the answering machine. I kind of wondered if it was my SIL and she thought we weren't answering the phone.

Jean, it's been five days....have you heard from the SIL yet? If not, then maybe she is settling in after all. Or she has forgotten you.

I know you are glad to have that episode of your life behind you!

Unfortunately, she will probably forget she's not speaking to you, and there you'll be. (LOL) good luck

    Hi Mary,

I had an email from a friend today and my SIL is doing okay. The ALF took them out for ice cream which she enjoyed and said she should have moved there before!!!!!!!

The woman from APS said the phone in the room wasn't working. It turns out the phone is the one that is in each apartment just for emergencies and she is supposed to set up my SIL's phone. My SIL has been asking her to call us and tell us she's sorry and loves us. I guess my DH will give her a call if we ever find out she has a working phone.

Just yesterday I was thinking about ALZ and how it makes people forget things they always complained about. With my SIL it was her sinuses or her stomach EVERY time we spoke to her. Haven't heard a word about them for months. The other thing was she couldn't eat ice cream because of her stomach so she used to buy iced milk!!!! She couldn't drink milk either or eat tomato sauce but could eat tomatoes in a salad.

My DH seems to holding his own. Sometimes I feel like a fake being here when I read what everyone is going through.
I pray for all the caregivers at night and in the morning. I pray today will be a good one for all of you and your LO's

Jean, when I'm having a string of good days, I feel like a fake too.

My husband has taken to taking long walks - 45 minutes to over an hour. He has had one at least twice a week for about 3 weeks now. I worry like crazy but they actually seem to be good for him. He is carrying ID so if something happened they would have his name, address, phone number, doctor's name and phone number AND all of his medications. When he goes for walks he doesn't pace up and down. And he seems to be having no problems getting home again. He comes home tired but not too tired.

I worry because at some point he won't be able to do this any more safely. And if he can do this, how sick can he really be? Am I a fake?

In reality pretty sick. This is the same man who no longer has the words for newspapers and the mail, two things we deal with every day. And I think he has lost the word for garbage and I know the word recycling has disappeared. He has vascular dementia and he is losing his words much faster than he is losing control over his body. I'm grateful for that one, by the way. I am not looking forward to the diapers.
  2.
    Me either.

This is an update. The woman from APS is retiring this month because they are downsizing. I am now responsible for paying any bills for SIL online. DH didn't want me to do it but if I didn't SIL would have had to go to court to have a guardian appointed and if that happened all hell would have broken loose from SIL. She didn't know the woman from APS was paying her bills so she won't know I am. If she does and doesn't like it then she can just go get a gaurdian.

A couple of months ago one of her CD's matured and the woman from APS put it into another deal that gets more interest. Of course SIL had to sign the paperwork but doesn't remember and accused the woman of embezzling her money. Then she decided the younger woman who took her shopping and for lunch on Saturdays stole $5,000.00 from her. She sent really nasty postcards and left messages on her phone calling her terrible names. The outcome of all of this is she now has no-one to visit her and take her out.

She hasn't called here so I am assuming she has either forgotten how to use the phone or forgotten we exist. DH has called her a couple of times but I have no idea how the conversations went because he doesn't remember what she's said. The only thing she talks about is her cat and I am NOT a cat lover and I think she goes overboard and always did. Sorry to those of you have a cat but I just don't like them.

Right now things are pretty peaceful here and I hope it stays that way!
