I have searched the Hippa forms on various sites and I am not sure which one I would need to cover all bases. There seems to be different ones for different circumstances.

Jean, check with an elder law atty in your area or perhaps the legal aid society could help you.

And make sure you get a Medicare HIPPA signed early on. That is one place where POAs do not work.

I'm in the dark on this...can someone help me? I have POA for DH and so far haven't had any problems.

Can you add more about the Medicare Hippa? I thought if the LO or DS gave the ok for sharing health information that was all that was needed? I have an appt with an elder lawyer this week and would like to know more about this.

Unfortunately most doctors, hospitals, financial institutions, Medicare, health insurers only want THEIR HIPPA forms completed and signed. I have yet to find a universal HIPPA form which all institutions will take. Many will not accept the POA without the signed HIPPA form. That means DH has to sign the forms even though he doesn't know what he's signing.

LFL is so correct. It seems there is no universal anything. Once your spouse reachers the point of no understanding they can still sign the form. Makes no sense at all. Even though my husband passed on May 5 I am still having problems dealing with AARP.

You would think AARP would be the one company that would understand POA's etc seeing as how they are always touting themselves as the company for older people.
