Medicaid has guidelines, certain number of days to process a claim. They do not stop because someone passes away sad to say. If you apply for Medicaid, do not follow up with the appointment times and required info then they stop the claim process and you start all over again. In a case where someone has died that means no retroactive payment to the NH once the claim is approved. I would not suggest that anyone stop the Medicaid process because someone passes away unless you do not have any unpaid bills that you are counting on them paying.
Asking Medicaid to wait a few weeks would be the last thing you want to do. A few days at the most.
