I just realized I should post this. I would post more often if I could actually remember/save my password and sign in info for this sight. I always have to fight fight fight with my computer to get in here. So I just read. Do I ever just write down my info once I get in?? No..that is too logical. All of our brains today are overloaded with ID and passcodes. I work for a bank and use 30 computer systems, all with passcodes and ID's that must be changed every 90 days. PLUS my home stuff. Some days I just think I am a village idiot! ;)
I am in now and I am gonna post post post!! Love you all! Sheltifan
These things are complicated. I try to help myself by a) using the same password for all sites where security regarding what I'm doing there is not super crucial. This is one of those sites. b) If security is more important--e.g...banking sites, or places from which I can make purchases--I do give them unique and strange passwords, but try scrupulously to keep a written record. I have a little stack of index cards containing this sort of info, which I must consult on a regular basis. All I have to do is remember the secret spot! c) For ATM and other pins, I record the numbers in a special code, in a special notebook that goes with me. When I forget how the code works, we'll have a problem!
So, often I do have to look things up before I can proceed with certain operations, because there's no way I can retain it all.
Took me two tries to log in, I too suffer from password overload!
Tip for work, I stole it from the computer people when they had to reset one of my passwords. I have around 6 systems that I have to change every 90 days. I use the season and the year and then I can always figure it out. Currently it is spring10 and about to turn into summer10!!
On this site, I check "remember me" so I am always logged on when I come back. For passwords, I use names of friends that are unusual. Then I just have to remember which friend I used.
I have variations of four passwords and I use them for different categories, Financial, e-mail, social networks, shopping, etc., with visual memory associations for each that would mean nothing to anyone else.
At home, I have two bank envelopes on which I have written names and passwords. So efficient! I don't know why I didn't think of the index cards or a little notebook!!!!! At the office, it's different....I have so many names and passwords, and I've got them organized and those that I don't have memorized, I can go to my hidden document and find it immediately.
What I hate to do is have the CAPS on and they are to be lower case, and I get frustrated trying to get on and can't! Then I realize my error and say something worse than "aw shucks" -- <grin>
