I have been taking Sertraline (generic for Zoloft) since March. I went on it to help me handle the difficulties with my dh, who is un-dx ftd (he is on Seroquel and is acting better). I started out on 50 mg a day, and went up to 75 mg per the doctor. I didn't feel I was getting the full benefit from 50 mg. But, I have noticed that I have memory lapses, like I try to remember something and have to struggle and finally remember it a few seconds or a minute afterwards. I will start to say something, and part way through it I will forget the rest of what I was trying to say. Then I remember. It's embarrassing, and I'm also afraid that I'm getting dementia. What I've described isn't a constant occurrence, but happens enough daily that it concerns me.

Do any of you on Sertraline have the same problems?

My DH is on 100mg of Sertraline and he has AD so of course he doesn't remember things I've said and can't always find the words to say what he wants. Have you Googled Sertraline to see if that is one of the side affects. You could mention it to your doctor also.

Hanging On, I checked Webmd and didn't see anything about memory loss so you might do better speaking to your doctor or pharmacist.

I've researched quite a lot on Sertraline and find nothing about memory loss either. Better speak with your doctor, Hanging On.

My middle girl is on this medication..she gets "distracted" is the way I would put it. She does have a lot on her plate with a house being remodeled and kids and dogs and farm animals etc..But she will mention now and then how she will forget someone's birthday or to make a call for an appointment or something but she has never mentioned forgetting what she is trying to say. I would agree, talk to your doctor about this. Maybe a change of medication is in order.

I take it, but I don't remember if I've forgotten anything.

Hanging on - are you on a stating drug too? They will cause memory loss. But definitely get a hold of your doctor. You don't need this stress on top of everything else.

Thanks to all for the help. I will be asking the doctor about this. I do like the pills in that they sure do help me cope with life better. I found that I'm able to appreciate the beauty around me more, ie, trees. And I negatively obsess much less, about problems here at home. And when something tough does happen with dh, I'm able to put it to rest much more quickly. I'm also laughing more. Charlotte, you asked about a statin drug. No, I'm not on anything like that. In fact, Sertraline is the only pres. med that I'm on.

I take Cymbalta,Amitrytripline and Halcion for my anxity and depression. I have periods where I don't remember actually having gone to bed. And I notice I am having difficulty completeing tasks. But my doc says it that I have been through so much in a short time and I am still fatiqued from 5 years of care giving. I feel shell shocked and like there are so many tasks at hand that its hard to remember things, even the list thats in my hand.
