Has anyone here seen a news item about a 72 year old lady who was arrested two days ago in South Carolina for driving 102 MPH? When the policeman stopped her, she said she was late for her hairdresser appointment and had made a wrong turn soon after leaving home. ( It turns out the appointment wasn't until next week.) She admitted to the officer she knew she was going 100 MPH, but she didn't understand how it all happened. She was in the next county, home of many backward law enforcement and political persons, and six police cars quickly arrived on the scene as the apprehending officer put her in handcuffs and led her to his car. She was in a cell from 11 am until 11 pm that night when her husband was finally reached. If you watch the tape of her arrest or of her next day interview (oh yes, the press has swarmed her), any of us in this AS community can see she is definitely in early stage dementia. Her family took her to the ER where it was discovered she had a kidney infection. (Ring a bell, spouses?) I feel so sorry for the family and I also feel alarmed thinking of all the people in a similar situation out there driving.

This item is all over the web. The videos are on the WSPA tv news site. BTW, the lady is a retired biology teacher.

I read the article too, it was SO not funny.... how sad. I was in the car with my DH when he was driving 97 in South Carolina, (on our way to Florida)... I saw the cop following us, and did nothing. I wanted the cop to stop us and give him a ticket. i actually was hoping he'd take his license. That was also in the early stages, and I just couldn't get him to slow down. Of course, he no longer drives, but it was not easy.

I saw it on the news. The lady was very honest and said she deserved to get arrested because she was speeding. I wonder what her fine was?? Or will they try to prove the medication she was on caused it??
