Two weeks ago my eye glasses broke and I went to the optical shop but the young woman couldn't fix them. Ended up getting new glasses and was told they would be back on Wednesday. I called Wednesday afternoon and they weren't in. Whoever sent them out didn't remember they had opened their own lab and sent them to the old one so they were sent out again and I was told they would be back Thursday or Friday. Called Friday afternoon and no they would be back Monday or Tuesday. We stopped by Tuesday morning after DH's doctor's appointment and they were the wrong lens. I wear the no-lines and these had a line in which I couldn't see out of. Back again they go and I was told they would be back Thursday or Friday. Called Friday..no they will be back Monday or Tuesday...there was a bad accident on the highway so they weren't delivered. The accident according to the paper closed one south bound lane and took up all of one inch of space in the paper. Called this morning...no they will be here this afternoon...called this afternoon....no they will be her tomorrow. I blew up and told the woman I wanted my glasses today or I want my money back. She is asking me if there is anyway I can pick them up tomorrow...again I told her no I want them today or my money back. I am now waiting for the owner of the optical shop to call and see what excuses he comes up with. I am wearing old glasses that I can't see out of very well. I have worn glasses for 50 years and have never ever had problems like this. Even if they were sent back it only took 2 or 3 days. DH keeps asking if I am upset about my WATCH!!!!!!
Jean - we waited 2 months for my hb's glasses from the VA and they were the wrong prescription. This is the first time thru the VA but it was free and free is good. Previously we always got them at Binyon cause they were ready in an hour. We always got the buy one get one free - he got one tinted and I got my second pair as computer glasses.
They should give you your glasses and a complete refund if they have any integrity. (my opinion)
I got a call at 4.00pm from the woman at the optical shop telling me my glasses would be there in 25 minutes! I went down and got them and the woman was apologizing AGAIN and I just told her "don't". If they could have my glasses there in 25 minutes they could have had them there this morning. I told the woman I had never dealt with such incompetence in my life and would never buy my glasses there again and I wouldn't be getting my husband's glasses there. There was no offer of a refund so as Charlotte said they have no integrity.
google them and see if there are reviews online. Also, check with the BBB and chamber of commerce - if they are a member register a complaint. This is a great way to get out frustration and anger. It may even get you a partial or complete refund.
I have never tried them myself, but I hear Costco does a great job with eyeglasses at a fraction of the cost of an optical store. I did just purchase my Mom's hearing aids there and she loves them. We paid half what we would have at a hearing aid "audiologist" - same manufacturers, too. Next time I'm due for glasses, I am definitely giving them a try as I almost passed out at the expense of last glasses.
My hb use to get his glasses at Costco and never had problems with them - progressives. I tried progressives from them and they were horrible - I could only read one letter at a time. they offered to try again and I said forget it. I just went with the lines and the lines don't bother me. I usually only wear my glasses while using the computer although my regular ones do have distance on them. My next ones will have to be trifocals cause I can't read the midrange. So, I would definitely try them if you have them near you.
I started wearing glasses all the time in Ohio years ago. At that time the lenses proscribed were Zeiss. When we moved here 20 years ago I got new glasses and had a terrible time with them and took them back. I was told then that once you wear Zeiss lens you can't wear any others. Now I check to see if they can do the Zeiss lens so I guess I will have to do that no matter where I go when I need new glasses and just find a place that can do them. They are no-line,progressive and I have never had a problem.
I have been told that Jean, that the different progressive lense manufactures do them different. So if one brand of lense works it is no guarantee another will. That was the problem when I tried them. For some reason my husband's brand of progressive was different from the brand my came in with - both bought at Costco. I tried his and he did have a wider vision frame than the ones I had. Weird.
I got the run around on my husband's last pair of glasses. He now forgets to wear them so we won't be getting anymore.
The folks at the lab were so apologetic, but when they checked the glasses out they weren't right so they had sent back twice.
The lab is in a Walmart. When I went in to ask what was going on, they had a gift card waiting for me. Not for the entire cost of the glasses, but for a good percentage. I hadn't asked. They just had it attached to his file so they would not forget to give it to me.
I saw this topic, "I AM FURIOUS' and figured that I'd put my question here instead of starting another discussion. I have a question about how I should deal with a nursing home issue. My problem: my daughter tells me she went to see her dad yesterday and goes at least once a week now to visit. GREAT!! She says she just sits and reads (which is exactly what I do when I go....he sleeps most of the time). She ridiculed me for not visiting more often. She says the staff and nurses tell her I never visit and when I do, I never stay very long. (?) Sometimes there is truth to that. My reasons for infrequent visits are my own. My question is this...I have had this discussion with the director of the facility. At this point, the family may certainly have access to his nurses, health care providers, etc. to understand his health issues. BUT, I don NOT want information about my (or anyone's) visits disclosed to anyone. It's no one's business. What possible interest would it be anyhow, except to rifle feathers of those who already bear me malice?
I've already had 'the talk' with the staff, like I said. Do you think that a letter from my attorney would be appropriate? I don't want to piss off management there......because of John's pending Medicaid approval (or, God forbid, disapproval) at this point. Is there legal action I can take (or threaten) for disclosure of information I've asked not to be spoken of?
Jen, Letters can come and go from attorneys to admnistrators..but the information trickle down effect doesn't always work in places where the latter of the group is paid minimum wage. They don't always understand 'confidentiality'. and they will chit chat with visitors and make nice...and this info just slips out.. I'm sure Ariel asks" How often does Mom come by"... I doubt they simply volunteer the info themselves. It's totally inappropriate, but from one who's been there, I doubt if you can do much to stop them from talking.
Nancy B* has made some good points. Also, I think that you might want to consider presenting the best picture of yourself that you can, at least until the Medicare issue has been decided. That may mean visiting more often and staying longer, since you say they could fault you on that. Take your book, or maybe your laptop, put in the time and don't say anything to the staff that couldn't be shouted from the housetops. (My husband calls it "posterior insulation.") No matter how valid your reasons are, there are people who will use it against you. If you play it cool, time will pass, and I think you'll find that things will work themselves out.
Thank you two. I try to visit every week to two weeks (I know, sounds alarming to many, but there are very real reasons why I don't...the price of fuel for my vehicle is only one of them). When I go, its usually for an afternoon. I don't have much interaction with the staff and they're all so friendly to me. I guess its just human nature for people to talk about you when you're vulnerable or they have issues with you. I'll take your advice and try and CMA a little more thoroughly. Jen
