Wondering if anyone could give me information on UTI? Last night DH was up at least 6-7 times going to the bathroom. In fact in the first hour he went 3 times saying he had to pee...no luck...I know nothing about UTI..never had one nor has he to my knowledge. I guess I'll call his doctor tomorrow, but in the meantime just asking for help and or advice!
Thanks!
Should also mentioned he has been a little more "confused" for the past 3 days...not sure if there is a connection..
Audrey it does sound as though he has one with the inability to void and sensations - we are battling a huge uti as i type. they can come from nowhere. DH already had kidney issues and this one crept in without alot of signs like usual. he has been on antibiotics since friday pm. he went into full blown body shaking friday nite due to dehydration and infection and high fever. today after 3 doses of meds he is doing much better. i always would suggest to err on side of precaution and if you can get the AZZO urine test strips from a local pharmacy to run under the urine it will be a good indicator. but i would still call his dr on monday and they can do the test there. try to catch a clean urine sample to take to the dr office on monday. it will speed things up. being out of it is par for the course with uti. and it doesnt take much infection to send them over the edge. i can ttell you how many we have been thru over the decade. good luck. divvi ps make SURE hes getting lots of fluids!
Confusion, elevated temp, foul, amber, cloudy urine. Alz loved ones reallly forget to drink enough, therefore those UTI'S come along. Like Divvi said call doctor, as antibiotics will be needed. Good luck my friend.
If it's hard to get him into car to go to the doctor, by all means do go get that AZZO urine test strip - you can get them at Walmart, they aren't prescription and they're very easy to use. It's just one thing, along with a urine sample, that you can use to get an appointment or a prescription from the doctor.
Audrey while it could be a uti it might also be a prostate infection. if the urine strip does not confirm a uti then he should still see a Dr asap because a prostate infection can stop urine passage and display all the other symptoms you describe. antibiotics will be required for either and if it is prostate a catheter will probably also have to be inserted temporarily. he also can get very sick to his stomach and vomiting can happen. an examination by a Dr should be able to confirm either condition. good luck
