Joan, I apologize ahead of time for creating a new discussion but this subject is opposite to the topic "Does AD mask pain?" This topic is "Does AD cause pain senstivity?" If you barely touch my husband he winces in pain. When you see the look on his face, you can tell he is truly feeling pain. You can do something as simple as a gentle pat on the back and he says ouch ouch that hurts. This is a new behavior that started about 6 weeks ago. Has anyone else experienced this? I wonder if he doesn't want to be touched. He also isn't laughing and joking as much. Six weeks ago everything was funny. Now he is more serious. I am so glad I can visit this site and read the posts. I don't feel so alone in this process. Thanks for listening.

Polly, read the "I called Alzheimer's Association" discussion. They discussed this issue there. Both what it is and medications.

    Mary,

Thank you for your help. I will read that discussion. My DH has been on the meds for 2-3 years now.

We had this behavior. My LO was sensitive beyond belief. Every shirt itched, her bra was pinching, you name it. Taking her hand got me a "Ow, don't squeeze me." Getting her into a T shirt was useless..trying to manipulate her arms got angry howls of "You're hurting me!" Even moving her arms back to get her into a button up shirt was met with anger.

Now I know why these women wear those huge house dresses! At least they're able to get into them! But yes, we have been that way for about 2-3 years.
