Did anyone watch the episode this evening? One of the guest characters had a bad motorcycyle accident and when he was brought to the ER they found he had a "DO NOT RESUSCITATE" tattoo on his chest. While trying to have the hospital figure out the legalities of the DNR, he underwent surgery for his chest trauma and was placed on a vent. When they did an MRI, it showed massive atrophy of the brain unrelated to his accident. To shorten the story he had EOAD (hereditary type) and did not want to be given any extraordinary care as he didn't want to die like his father had from Alzheimers at the age of 47. He wanted to die with dignity. His sister sat with him when they turned the vent off and he then died. It was difficult to watch, I think because it was close to home. This man was still able to do things as he was relatively young and healthy, but his day to day, minute to minute realization of what was going on around him was more than he could handle.
I was moved by his courage and his sister's courage --- even though they were actors. Got all teary when his character died.
I watched it - first time watching the show. It was done nicely but her saying he had EOAD was so brief, I wonder how many people picked it up. I do like the way he decide to live his life - if he died enjoying life so be it.
