Just Posted on Facebook: Son out of surgery; no ICU!!! Back in his room. Pancreas and kidney working, blood sugar good, BP good. Looks good all around. We'll see him Monday, God willing. Thak you all for your prayers and support. Love you all.
Vickie, I am so happy things are going well for your son. I have said a prayer that your DH will handle the trip really well and everything will be just fine. God Bless.
Thank you all so very much. He's still doing well this morning and we leave tomorrow morning - hopefully! DH is all confused about where we are going, etc. I just hope he won't refuse to go in the a.m. We have to drop our Millie off at the vet for boarding and that will be hard for him, I know. We'll see how this trip goes.
Vickie, glad your son is doing well. It has been a long wait for all of you. Blessings on your trip tomorrow. Remember to "go with the flow". Tomorrow is another day.
Was up at 5 a.m. this morning. We had a cup of coffee in bed; DH seemed fine. After he got dressed and came downstairs, he told me he had already taken his meds. Well...his morning meds were on the kitchen table where they always are. He had taken his NIGHT meds. Thankfully, some were duplicates and I had him take the morning ones that were not in his night ones. So, who knows how today driving with him will be????
Son did well yesterday, they had him sitting in a chair late yesterday afternoon! Blood sugar still good; BP just a little elevated. Can't wait to wrap my arms around him!!!
Thanks again for your prayers and comfort. Will check in when I can.
Vickie enjoy that long overdue visit with your son! DH will probably show signs of being ignored. haha. and if you have to ask for ativan a half of pill for him while you are visiting your son. haha- it will do you andyour recouping son amazing things to get to visit and hold one another. i wish you the best visit and that DH holds it together til you get home. if not go with the flow and just get thru it. divvi
He is doing great! Was walking yesterday, took lots of tubes out and the surgeon told me he's their star patient, since he is doing everything right. Couldn't wrap my arms around him, but did get to kiss his forehead! If all continues good this week, will be released Sunday, which is a week earlier than anticipated, but has to stay up there nearby for 6 weeks. His SO, who is a nurse, is taking care of him wonderfully. Another great caregiver!!!
The trip was horrible with DH. But we got through it and I didn't lose my cool once, even when he jumped out of the car when we were in line at the valet parking area. He did finally find his way back to the car. I figured someone would find him and hopefully call me on my cell - or take him to jail! LOL But the trip totally wiped him out. I'm sure I have set him back considerably, but I had to take this trip and I'm so happy I did. I did something for me this time and I'll deal with the consequences, whatever they are.
Thanks so much for all your support. Love you all.
Vickie, me too! I'm so glad you went to see him! And your husband is going to go down whether you travel or not. Never feel badly doing what you need to do for yourself or for others in your family. What is going to happen will happen...no one's fault. I have found that they do recover almost everything in a matter of a week or two, but if they don't, that part they would have lost anyway.
Vickie, I bet you are so relieved to see your son doing so well. I hope he continues to be the star pupil and that your DH will do better after a while. Hang in there and God Bless.
Vickie, I am just sitting here grinning....I love good news. Every so often we just have to put ourselves first.......your husband will survive. Oh man....I can only imagine how relieved you are. Hugs.....
Vickie, I've been away and have just found this thread. So happy to hear about the successful transplants. And good for you for making the trip. You deserve it.
Thanks again to you all. He is now eating "real food" and all is still well. Being discharged tomorrow afternoon, but will remain nearby for 6 weeks.
DH has still not returned to "normal"; doesn't remember the trip from H..., but that's okay. It would really frustrate him if he did remember how hard it was for me.
Update: He's back in the hospital, spiked fever, spots on lung, major pain, had morphine then changed to Diluadid I think. Infectious disease specialist came, he has a "bug" so is on antibiotics. Just did a CT scan to re-check the lung. Kidney and pancreas transplants are okay, so far. So,not doing well, and now he's getting depressed with all of this as he's been back in the hospital 6 days with not much improvement. I need to give him a hug!! Can't go. Just keep him in your prayers.
vickie me too prayers your son gets better soon. hugs to you. we all knowyou want to be there. AD takess it all even our ability to mobilize when we need to= divvi
