I've been gone for the past two days, largely. I came home to notice that the fabric "honeycomb" blind at my back french doors was unfurled, crashed to the floor, the cord that brings it up and down MISSING. I found my cat, "Rip", in my closet. Found the cord from the blind beside her. The little round tie had been chewed to pieces. Really couldn't figure this out. Well, this afternoon, I came home from the NH and saw her tail was wierd looking. Put on my "reader" glasses and examined it. She had evidently gotten the cord wrapped around her tail earlier (YESTERDAY while I was GONE???) and managed to rip herself free (no pun intended)! She had almost succeeded in amputating her own tail by tying it OFF!! WOW, scarey. There is a cautionery label on venetian and similar blinds (like mine) that pertains to young children and the dangers of choking, hanging. PLEASE THINK OF YOUR PETS, TOO!! I thought I didn't need to be wary of keeping cords out of the way.....'cause I don't have kids. I HAVE A CAT!!!

Oh what a memory that brings back to me too. My Taco, gone now nearly a year, got the blind strings around his neck and got so panicked that he nearly hanged himself trying to run away from it. I hung those cords up away after that and when my blinds need to be replaced they are going to be cordless.
Glad kittie is going to be ok..

WHEW! What a scare!! This is MY KID!!! I found a neat thing today at Lowe's. My french doors are the metal security type. There are magnetic window attachments that have a cordless blind system sandwiched between the panes of glass. NEAT solution!!! Problem is, it will cost about 180 bucks a pop!!

I have never been a cat person. I may be changing. We live out in the country and someone dumped a cat off and it has been hanging around the house. I finally broke down and fed it. Now she will not leave. Bradley spends the day looking out the window at our neighbors's cats who hang out on ourside of the fence. The stray cat and Bradley get along great. The cat walks right up to Bradley and rubs up against him.

Today I took Bradley for a walk, I have Bradley on a leash and the cat is following Bradley down the road.
It is like the cat wants to be where Bradley is.

Jen..I bought two of those for my french doors to the pool, and although expensive, they are cheaper than replacing blinds every year....

moorsb-- Unless you have allergies or the like, consider adopting Bradley's new friend. We have a 3-some and it's wonderful. I jokingly tell people we have 3 cats--one barks. They all look out for each other, play together, etc.

I put that kind of door in my rent property about six years ago after replacing blinds every year. They work beautifully, and the door is so easy to clean. (Smooth Glass on both sides. Everyone loved them. Buy them and get the 12 month no interest no payment deal. You have to "ask for it" to get that deal.
Then you can be like Scarlett O'Hara and 'worry about paying for them 'tomorrow'........ Lawsy me! "

Kitties are wonderful. I have one black cat now, having lost my Taco last 8 May to age..he was 21. DH talks to Ebonie All the time. He calls her Ebonezer and if he calls her by any other name she ignores him. If I call her anything but Ebonie or Ebbie, she ignores me..
I think Bradley's new buddy needs a name now..Is it a girl kitty or a boy kitty.

We could have a kitty naming contest!

What do you and Bradley want?
  6.
Yeah, Bradley gets to decide (sounds like he's already made his choice).....is it broken? Nancy, Phranque...I'll go check out the window things again today. Its a focal point in my family room and I guess you have a point about the cost vs paying to replace blinds all the time. I don't like things to start looking shabby. Wish I'd sprung originally for the neato Anderson windows (EVERYwhere around the house) with the built-in blinds.

By all means get it fixed asap, moorsb. Among other things, males will come calling and yowling and fighting. Bradley might not be so tolerant. But yes, I have great pix of my dogs and cats curled up together. As I write, the last of my "threesome", Shadow, is curled on the chair next to me. SHe is 21. The other dog and cat are long gone. She's tiny, but hanging in there.

Even tho we are not to have animals where we live, we do. I went to the animal shelter and adopted a declawed, fixed, male cat. Until now I have only owned female cats, but this one cat seemed to have a connection with me when I saw him. To make a long story short, he is the joy of my life. He keeps my dh laughing day to day. It is worth having Grey Grey because he makes my dh so happy. We both love him. He loves us. There is constant therapy going on when those two are together..... I keep my blind cords up because of the cat. So far so good.
